Christopher Columbus Research Paper
I was taught when I was a little girl that christopher columbus was a hero cause he found the “New World”. To what I have read in Mrs. Forbes english 3 class. Christopher Columbus is a villain in my opinion. Why you ask? Let me explain. My impressions on Columbus when i was just a young child was he helped discover the place that i lived today and if columbus didn't find this land then i wouldn't be here today. Well another thing that they taught was this little saying “ In 1942 Columbus sailed the ocean blue”. What I didn't know Christopher Columbus was the first man that started slave trading. Columbus didn't discover america the indians (native americans) was here first. So why do we celebrate this criminal's day? We celebrate it because …show more content…

Columbus sold the little girls to his men and let them rape and sexually assault them. 9 and 10 year olds was the ones that was most wanted. Columbus wanted all the indians as slaves. One of columbus’s men was the one that discovered america not columbus. Columbus throw his journal into the ocean because he was gonna get hit by a hurricane. The thing is what upsets me is our little ones in schools are learning that columbus was a wonderful “hero”. When columbus is very a very bad person. My feelings for christopher columbus right now are that columbus is a worthless piece of trash. He sold little girls to be sex slaves, he made indians slaves. The indians killed their babies just so they didn't have to let them grow up in this. My opinion on columbus day is that columbus day is a worthless day that should be not celebrated. It should be a day that should be in memory for the indians that was sex slaves or raped till they died or committed suicide. That rotten man doesn't deserve as much praise as he gets because he is basically a piece of trash. So in conclusion my opinion on Christopher Columbus does not need his own holiday nor does he deserve to have a headstone where he is buried. We should've just took him out to sea and tossed his body into the ocean and let it never be seen again. Why do i say this? Columbus is a criminal and a nasty

My first reason as to why we should not celebrate Columbus Day is the simple fact that he did not discover America; there were already a large population of human beings living there. The people who inhabited the Americas prior to Columbus’s arrival were culturally diverse people who were skilled famers, hunters, and gatherers. The Native Americans built cities, developed organized economies, and had their own religious beliefs. “Most archaeologist agree that the Western Hemisphere’s first human inhabitants came from northeastern Asia (Davidson ).” Instead, it is more accurate to say that Christopher Columbus helped rediscover America.…

Columbus Day, the second Monday in October, represents the day Christopher Columbus landed in the Americas. America should no longer continue to celebrate Columbus Day because he had a miserable legacy, he did not really discover America, and he was cruel. He had a bad legacy because he committed genocide, started slavery and racism. Columbus did not really find the United States, there were indigenous people there already that were settled and lived off the land. On top of all that he was very cruel, he would cut their hands off if they did not give him the quarterly quota of gold dust, he roasted the chiefs in fires, and his treatment was so bad that people tried to kill themselves .…

It’s hard to decipher where the lines of justice, pride, and arrogance lie and when they are crossed; however, humane treatment and respect - whether that be self-respect or respect for others - is black and white. Columbus day is a holiday in which Americans celebrate a man who is not even an American, but better yet the Spanish-acclaimed Viceroy and Governor of the Indies and Admiral of the Seas who overpowered and subjected a whole land of natives to succumb to his rule, follow his religion and traditions, and be brutally beat while being forced into slavery. Although his ability to assume power and instill fear into these people so quickly may be admirable, he is not a figure that deserves the respect…

Christopher Columbus can in no way, shape, or form be considered a hero. A hero is someone who performs good deeds for the sake of others and not for their own benefit. Christopher Columbus did not do a single good deed in any of his four voyages in the late 1400 's. Christopher Columbus was not the founder of the Americas we live in today because he did not set a single foot on these grounds, even if he did there were already the natives who inhabited the land. When he first sited land it was further down south in the Caribbean Islands. Christopher Columbus can be considered the enforcer of slavery. Slavery was already going on when he left Spain. However, the natives could be used for trade with other goods, this was known as the slave trade. He and his crew basically enslaved a whole race of men, women, and children. When Christopher Columbus discovered what he thought to be the "New World", he had no idea that he would find a whole race of people. His intensions were to go out and find gold and spices to bring back to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella in Spain.…

Columbus did “discover” America, but the holiday should have a different name like something that involves the day of discovering America. American Indians already had lived there and Columbus treated them as slaves. But in their times slavery was okay and that’s what people don’t understand. It wasn’t until later we learned that it wasn’t right. We have a day off school for Martin Luther King Jr Day, yet there are plenty of other people who said great speeches who aren’t idolized. We should at least get school off for Columbus Day and think of it more of two different kinds of people coming together…

Columbus day is a national holiday in America celebrating the man that “discovered’ America. The problem is that he did nothing good for America. He brought slaves and disease to America, or what he thought was Asia. Columbus was an Italian, when Italy didn’t want to pay for his voyages he went to Spain's king and queen to ask them for the money, they agreed on the condition that he paid them back. When Columbus got to what he thought was Asia, but in reality was the caribbean islands, he captured slaves and sent them back to spain. This didn’t make him as much money as he hoped because most of the slaved died on the ships returning from the caribbean. When he went back he had the help of hundreds of slaves to help him find gold. When the…
