Christopher Delorenzo's How To Cut In Line

Christopher DeLorenzo addresses the best ways to cut in line in his article, “How to Cut in Line: A scientific approach”. He does highlight some good ways to get away with cutting the line, but this does not mean I agree with the idea of cutting. Line cutting is by far the worst of all offenses that can be done against others. I know it doesn’t really matter if one person gets in front of me in the lunch line, but is it really fair? I went to my locker, got my books, and jumped in line. ‘What’s a few seconds’ is the response I get from my friends who say it doesn’t matter. This is true, but it’s not the seconds that matter to me. It’s the fact that people who cut in line act like their time is more precious than mine. Now, that doesn’t mean
that if you ask to get in front of me, I’ll be irritated. I will more than likely let you in front of me. This is because you asked and I strive to be a nice person. What’s not being a nice person is cutting the line and acting like nothing happened. That my friend is stealing because time is money and everyone’s time is precious. I can see however, that DeLorenzo’s tactics to cut the line make sense. He addresses that the best way to cut is to just ask, “‘May I used the Xerox machine, because I need to make copies?’ was almost as effective” (DeLorenzo). This coincides with my views that I will let people cut when they ask me. DeLorenzo also highlights my biggest pet peeve by stating what people will not tolerate when it comes to cutting the line, “[T]he worst sin of line-cutting is pretending you’re not doing it” (DeLorenzo). If there is a legitimate reason to cut the line, then it’s okay to ask because you will most likely be told yes. Those who pretend likes it’s no big deal, give off an attitude that they can do what they want, hence I become irritated and write and angered response at the thought of line cutters.
