Now the technology is available to the public. Drones can be used for research, investigation and hobbies. Farley states: “Without this technology, it wouldn’t be possible to do this [drone] kind of research” (qtd by Daniel McGlynn). Many other people use drones for business Barry Neild writes: “…you can use two helicopters (drones) piloted by a computer –it’s much cheaper” (qtd by Neild). Farmers and ranchers can check on crops, fences and livestock. Biologists can use drones to study wildlife. Photographers and realtors use drones for aerial photographs. Drones can be used for humanitarian relief to provide assistance to victims and examine the damage in situations of natural disasters such as earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, and floods. Food, water, and other supplies could be delivered to people who are trapped. Drones could locate and deliver life preservers to drowning victims. Medical supplies could be delivered to remote areas. Firefighters can use drones in search and rescue. Businesses can use drones for surveillance, inspections and deliveries. In 2014, BP was given approval to use drones to inspect pipelines, roads and equipment in Alaska (Faust 16). Amazon Prime Air and Project Titan are exploring the use of drones for delivery.
