INTRODUCTION
With the enactment of the Employee Compensation Act 2010, the prospects for the Nigerian Worker to be adequately compensated should there be injury at work became very glaring. The NSITF which is the institution saddled with the implementation of this act was thus structured along the lines of delivering on the assignment of Social Security to the Nigerian workforce. The objective of the Employee Compensation Act is to, amongst others, make comprehensive provisions for compensation to employees who suffer from occupational diseases or sustain injuries arising from accidents that occur at the workplace or in the course of employment. It is intended to bring the system of compensation for employees in line with global best practices and trends. The welfare of employees is of paramount consideration under the Act. The foregoing clearly shows that Claims and Compensation Administration is the main fulcrum of the ECA 2010. The implementation of the act itself can be rightly said to be the proper processing of claims and the compensation of verified claims. This presentation provides a brief overview of the administration of claims and compensation as derived from the act.
