Although many people may know and like the game of baseball and have a basic understanding of how the game itself is played, few people actually know the different roles of pitchers and just how important they are to the game. A Major League Baseball team usually carries eleven or twelve pitchers on their staff. Five of those pitchers are starters and the rest are middle relievers, a setup man, and a closer.…

Choosing the right exercise program is the easiest part. If you like the outdoors then walking may be the right choice. “A brisk Walk is nearly the perfect exercise” (“Health Prescription” 2001). Dr. Mason explains in Harvard’s Women’s magazine, stretching before any exercise is important (“Health Prescription” 2001). She says, walking can be done in many different ways and the most effective way is a long thirty-minute walk (“health Prescription). If walking is not intense enough then cardio is a good choice. “When it comes to fitness fads that have swept across America over the past 50 years, cardio is the king” (Newsome 2012). A good form of cardio is running. “ Do you love the feel of running in the great outdoors yet worry about the bad press that running sometimes gets. There are precautions you can take” (Carerra 2012). “Running allows you to be connected with your thoughts and the increased heart rate and endorphin response of recruiting your entire body into the movement is uplifting, invigorating, addictive”( Carerra 2012).…

For many years there has been a debate between which is better for weight control and all around health and fitness, Cardiorespiratory Exercise or Weight Training. Many people tend to focus only on one aspect of the physical wellness. For example women, like myself may focus more on cardiorespiratory and flexibility training more so than Weight training. This is out of fear of injury, or the muscles becoming too bulky. Women tend to want to burn more calories, therefore they focus on exercises’ such as aerobics, walking, swimming, and jogging. Research shows that working out with weights has health benefits beyond simply bulking up one's muscles and strengthening bones. Studies are finding that more lean muscle mass may allow kidney dialysis patients to live longer, give older people better cognitive function, reduce depression, boost good cholesterol, lessen the swelling and discomfort of lymphedema after breast cancer and help lower the risk of diabetes. Although Weight training has its benefits for variety of reasons; it also has its downside. Weight training promotes short term stiffness of the blood vessels, which could promote High Blood Pressure over time and increase the load on the heart. This would not be good for someone who has a history of Hypertension. A variety of studies have shown that the best way to offset the cardiovascular stress caused by strength training is to combine cardiorespiratory endurance exercise such as a brisk walk, bicycling, or elliptical machine, immediately after a weight training exercise. Regular aerobic exercise causes your lungs to process more oxygen with less effort; your heart to pump more blood with fewer beats; and the blood supply directed to your muscles to increase. As a result, by performing cardiovascular exercises, you are increasing your body's endurance and efficiency.…

A person can walk almost anywhere, whether it is taking a walk outdoors, around the neighborhood, on a treadmill indoors, or even walking around the mall. On an average, every minute a person walks extends their life by one and a half to two minutes. A much better aerobic exercise that a person can fit into their exercise routine is swimming. Swimming doesn’t stress a person’s joints, according to the CDC; it is also the second most popular activity in the United States.…

Increasing exercise capacity and CRF in healthy normotensive individuals reduce the risk of hypertension (Chase et al 2009). However, moderate and high exercise capacity is associated with lower mortality risk in elderly men with hypertension (Faselin et al 2014). Furthermore, a chronic health condition associated with aging might limit the ability of the older individual to achieve exercise capacity. However, the regular exercise recommended as prevention, treatment, and control of primary and secondary hypertension (Pescatello et al 2004, ACSM 2004). There is an inverse association between exercise capacity and incidence of CVD. Exercise by various mechanisms, including improvement in endothelial function, reduction in arterial stiffness and decrease in sympathetic neural activity could be effective in the cardiovascular protective (Guimara˜es et al…
