A working rapport was easily established; Makayla was cooperative during the evaluation session with no indications of hyperactivity or impulsivity. Her affect was appropriate, and she smiled often, she also maintained good eye
contact during the interview and over the course of the assessment, her speech and language were clear, coherent and audible. The sequence of Makayla’s thoughts was logical, and her memory and abstract thinking were apparently intact. This school psychology intern noted that Makayla used her fingers and nodded to keep tracking the numbers during measures of mental operations as a strategy. Makayla demonstrated satisfactory effort during the assessments; she struggled when provided with challenging verbal items. However, she answered most questions and made very few “I don’t know” responses.
During the visual motor abilities assessment Makayla demonstrated to be right hand-dominant and presents with a typical pencil grip, Makayla asked questions when she did not understand the instruction that was given, sometimes she smiled apparently as a way to release her anxiety. Makayla planning and placement of figures was done in an organized manner; however, she erased and redrew the images consistently, on one item she erased it and redrew it eight times until the examiner asked her to continue with other image and Makayla agreed with a smile.
Sensory Motor Functioning: Makayla’s level of motor activity appears to be adequate for her age, as she is well coordinated, and does not seem to show any signs of impulsive behavior. She was attentive to all the stimuli presented by this examiner. The mother reported that Makayla is up-to-date with all of her vaccinations, receives an annual physical examination, and does not have any serious illnesses. Her current weight and height are also within normal limits for her age, and her last hearing and vision screening were conducted by her primary doctor in August of 2017, indicating both to be within normal limits.
