Clinical Decision Making Essay

Based on the situation I encountered during my clinical, decision making in clinical settings is a judgment to be made on the patient care and as nurses, our judgment on patient care must be professional. We also need to be aware of the possibilities of our actions and decision. Clinical decision making does not only rely on the individual, but in a health care setting, the decision doesn’t just come because looking at my situation, I didn’t ask any other nurses about their opinion but I was just focusing on my preceptor to provide a solution to that. What I also realized after the situation was that if the situation was a life-threatening situation, I would have killed someone simply because I only Intune to my conscience while other healthcare
Some situation needs health care team to come together in making decisions. According to moi, Clinical decision-making is a complex process involving observation, information processing, critical thinking, evaluating evidence, applying relevant knowledge, problem-solving skills, reflection and clinical judgment to select the best course of action which optimizes a patient’s health and minimizes any potential harm. The role of the clinical decision-maker in nursing is, therefore, to be professionally accountable for accurately assessing patients’ needs using appropriate sources of information, and planning nursing interventions that address problems and which they are competent to perform (clinical judgment and decision making, 2010). In Leadership or as a leader must have the basic qualities, especially in health care like communication skills, ability to resolve conflict, able to have a public trust and developing a solid team in terms of decision making. A leader must also be able to generate knowledge that must be converted into information to help health care team or professionals in making clinical
