you take a walk you see the sky and clouds and when you’re in a car you tend to gaze out the window and view plenty of houses that sit under clouds.
It’s very simple, yet intriguing. The Painting has a great focal point. When I first looked at the painting I was immediately drawn to the clouds. Some people might say the houses but the clouds tell an interesting story. They’re all shaped differently and colored in different shades of blue.It reminds me of when a light storm flows through and new brighter clouds come in and take over over for the rest of the day. That is why I think that this painting has a focal point,it’s easy to be drawn to and it gives you a short story to go along with it. I love how the painting is so straightforward, the title helped me interpret what I saw, from the setting to the weather. The houses reminds me of modern art that could be found in California, the clouds tell me that this location could be in northern California. Since San Francisco is located in the northern part of the state I can tell that the clouds were
there to show that the area gets a lot of precipitation.Once I gathered all of the details up,it all started to connect and make sense. The predominant color scheme in the work has to be all the different colors of blues. It enhances the work by giving it a vibrant nature feel. Most times when I see art that takes place in an outside setting,I don't get a feeling of nature but with this work of art,I do and I owe that to the lively clouds that were created. Clouds Over San Francisco is representational seeing that it is very realistic and natural. If you were to go to California you would see houses that are built and shaped the same way. It’s a certain style that would be expected to see in a state like California. The traditional role that can best describe this piece is to record the world. Dina crafted this painting to record the world through her eyes, she saw the beauty in California so she made it for us to try to capture half of the beauty she saw. The three elements that are shown in this piece are color, line and texture. The color shows nature and how modern the houses are. The lines portray the clouds and their movement and the texture give is a realistic vibe. The three principles of design that I saw were balance, proportion and emphasis. The balance throughout the painting gives me the feeling when you see a house that was built with great architectural sense. Meaning that it’s very neat and somebody really took their time on making the house look dapper with colors and shape. As for proportions everything she painted was the right size, nothing was too big or too small, the houses meshed right together with each other very neatly. The emphasis that she put on the clouds made everything really come together. Given these points, I feel that Dina Budginas painted this so that we could see the beauty in where she learned and picked up skills that made her become a great artist.
