Beginning the Journey Toward Faster Reading and an Enlarged Vocabulary
Reading is the basis of all education. Without good reading techinques you can only go to a certain point in your education.
The average reader reads about the same speed that he reads which is about 150 words per minute depending on what part of the country he lives in. If you live up north you may speak a little faster and down south a little slower. But it is about 150 wpm.
Most untrained readers will read only between 125 – 250 wpm. So that 250 wpm becomes the maximum for that reading if you don’t have training. With training, her students are reading generally about 1000 wpm.
2 Components of EyeQ
Was created in Japan, by a brain specialist Dr. Akihiro Kawamura. We all know that the left side of the brain produces cognition and analyzing things and the right side of the brain is the creative side of the brain. He believed that if he could get that right and left side of the brain together, firing up during reading, that he could rapidly enhance the brains activity and increase cognition, comprehension, and retention. He was exactly right.
3 Goal We Need to Pursue in Speed Reading
1. We want to decrease fixation time. This is the time you are spending fixated on a word or group of words so that you have quicker eye movements. That is why the eye exercises and brain enhancement program is used.
2. We want to increase fixation span so that you can look in the center and see all these words out to the side. We are going to keep improving and growing that peripheral vision so that you can see more and more as you read your text.
3. We want to decrease eye regressions, continually going back. We want to keep moving forward.
