Within occupational therapy, a code of ethics was established to guide professionals in their practice. These code of ethics start to affect the apply to the life of professional when they are in the basic stages of entering the profession. What this means is, students in colleges and graduate programs are obligated as future occupational therapist to follow these rules of ethical behavior. Three areas of the code of ethics deeming the male student’s action of recording confidential information during class as a violation are autonomy, justice and veracity. For the male student he is in direct violation which stated, all professionals should “maintain the confidentiality of all verbal, written, electronic, augmentative, and nonverbal communications, in compliance with applicable laws, including all aspects of privacy laws and expectations thereto” (American Occupational Therapy Association [AOTA], 2015). In violation of all these code of ethics, outcomes could include a complete ban placed on both of us from practice within the field. It is due to this reason why I would attempt to address the problem at the beginning stages in order to avoid such repercussions. Taking on the role of an active professional in the field I would follow protocol by truthfully reporting to the class professors or other subsequent professors about the incident. This will be followed by the professors taking action to remove the evidence from the student’s procession which in turn, prevents him from the possibility of jeopardizing the female’s future or disclosing confidential information.
