Based on a graphic on The Washington Post, the majority universities' rankings only slightly floated from 2010 to 2015 (Anderson Lu). There is no doubt that reputation affects media’s opinions on schools, but, in fact, prestige is a part of strength; in another word, only if they have outstanding accomplishments, can they be well-known. Thus, reputation confirms and guarantees the universities’ quality of academic comparatively. Moreover, the quality of education cannot be improved in a short time; it needs to accumulate and develop through huge efforts and a long period. Jennifer Croissant presents the article, “Can This Campus Be Bought?” in a persuasive way, discussing how the image of a university is affected due to the relationships with large corporations. Croissant provides multiple examples as well as standpoints allowing audiences to view a problem from different perspectives. She points out the reason the corporations are willing to donate money to universities; yet, it is in a form of commercialization on campuses. They are interested in gaining power over the educational institutions, in regards to their popularity and advertisements. On the contrary, the institutions lose the core values, freedom, virtue, and autonomy; strictly speaking, their tendency of being independent has been declined. According to Croissant, this leaves bad images for the schools and they will lose the public and community’s trust and credibility on a large scale. Although she is not against being associated with the commercial activities to stay connected with the outside world, she justifies that there should be a limit in order to prevent the school’s pride, images and capabilities of making decisions. I, as a reader, have a neutral thought in despite of seeing Croissant’s arguments very convincing and helpful because corporate sponsorships also have a big impact in students’ academic lives.…

The author, Dick Armey, in this article suggests that there should be desperate measures to regulate the system at Texas universities. According to Armey, the universities are more focused on the complacencies of the faculty instead of the students that has potential. Armey sides with the undertaking of Governor Rick Perry’s education reform, which states that Texas’ education has gone off track and changes must be enforced. The University of Texas is pronounced the third largest endowment in the country, but falls into 47th for best academics. Not only the need for higher education has raised concerns but tuition is too.…

Yes, living alone in the wilderness like Thoreau and London sounds exciting, especially if you fake a big part of your adventures or if you can pack up and go home when you get too hungry. Chris McCandless doesn’t have these options, but Shaun Callarman believes that Chris is full of “Romantic silliness,” and by this statement I think he means that Chris goes into Alaska seeing only the good parts of the wilderness experience. Like Callarman, I believe that Chris has a head full of “Romantic ideas” and that he lacks “common sense” although I would not call him “plain crazy.”…

In the perspective of the asset list of the Premier Collegiate School, there are 300 students that need access to 25 desktop computers and they also will take these computers home. The staff and teachers are a total of 30 and they will have access to the hard-wire and wireless access. The administrative staff is a total of 10 and because this is a small number it is easier for the confidentiality to be in a tight knit space. With the wireless access it provides an open window of opportunity of availability. The principal will be taking her laptop on business trips and home so the availability access is at a higher standpoint. It is important in my opinion to have security on the principal’s laptop because she is accessing student’s private profiles and this is subject to the integrity and the availability of the student’s personal information. Another asset that must be prioritized is the high risk for unprotected wireless access. There are only 2 servers in the school and they are basically divided up between the administrative staff and the students. At any time they could become available to a threat. If the students and teachers are sharing and the proper security on the actual computers is compromised or weak all student information and their private records like their grades, scores, personal information is compromised. I think it is important to keep grades for the integrity of the students. The main security asset list needs to be prioritized in this order.…

In the article, “Are Colleges Worth the Price of Admission?” by Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus, the authors did research on several colleges around the country to see whether our investment on higher education is really worth the money that we pay for it. The authors believe that universities are the ones responsible for the doubling of tuition costs compared to what they used to be , and not fulfilling the most important objective to student’s which is: “to challenge the minds of young people” (180). In the article, Hacker and Dreifus outline some things they think would help improve some of the problems in the college system and a few universities that they like, and tell us why these schools have won their favor. Being an incoming freshman at Grambling State University, I’ve been able to see some of the issues universities can have from budget cuts, to problems with the G-men football team.…

Awareness and recognition of an issue are the first steps to addressing it, and by using Harvard as an example Fridman begins this process. The author’s word choice develops his argument further by creating a particular mood. His use of the word “ostracize” gives his tone a provoking feel and evokes compassion in the reader. Fridman addresses the fact that students in East Asia who study hard are commended for their work and university professors around the world are highly respected, whereas athletes are better paid and more admired in the United…

“It’s gratifying to have our undergraduate programs again be recognized for overall quality,” said Jennifer Stephens Helm, VP of institutional research and assessment for APUS. “However, while US News adjusted its ranking criteria this year to incorporate input from stakeholders, we believe there remains a disproportionate focus on graduation statistics similar to IPEDS, at the expense of the tangible learning and career outcomes most relevant to adult learners.”…

Higher education is widely recognized for academic excellence; students come from all over to study in U.S. colleges and universities. At the same time colleges and universities are often criticized for their unmanageable administration, organizational incompetence, and a lack of service orientation Ruben, B (2005). To the extent that these circumstances are present within a particular institution, they contribute to the critique of higher education in general, but also more directly undermine the perceived value of faculty and staff work, weaken financial and political support, and create barriers to fulfilling the mission of the institution (Ruben, 2005)…
