College Admissions Essay: A Career As A Computer Engineer

Many people have dreams and goals. I have put a lot of thought into my goals throughout my short life and only recently have I found my calling. For example, I want love to minor in music and major in agriculture. I want to attend Fresno State Or Cal. Poly. Once I am finished with high school. My dream job is to become a agriculture computer engineer.

It has always been my goal to be an engineer ever since I can remember. However it hasn't always been a clear choice to become an computer engineer, let alone in a agricultural field. When I first really began to get a clear view of what kind of engineer I was going to be was in the beginning of my sixth grade year. My cousin who was in the Airforce, came home to visit after being stationed
across seas, my family and I went up to see him. When we got there he told me all about his duties as a pilot and what it's like to fly at those incredible mind numbingly speeds, and the huge adrenaline rush he gets every time he turns on the engines. Being young and impressionable, I immediately was hooked on the idea of becoming a Aerodynamics Engineer where I would get the awesome thrill of seeing this incredible machine that I helped build roar to life.

This career choice followed me until my eighth grade year when I realized becoming a Aerodynamics Engineer took a lot more money and math skill than I could manage even by college.
With this new realization, I also realized I never really wanted to be a Aerodynamics Engineer. It was just me getting caught up in a world wind of excitement and wonder and not realizing just how much it took to become something like that. It was soon after this, I decided that instead of an aerodynamics engineer, I'd be a computer technician. As I had always had a knack for electronics, whenever something that ran off of a battery or power source went array, I could always fix it when everyone else's attempts failed. Naturally it seemed like a perfect fit to me to try and major in a career I like and I am good at, if only I'd have known that the summer would bring a big move three hours away and with it yet another goal change. The move saw me travel from the quaint little tourist town of Cambria just minutes from the beach, to a much larger and more robust town of Porterville where the nearest beach was three and half hours drive
away.

At the end of a summer mainly comprised of driving back and forth between the two houses to move and unpack things, I enrolled at Monache High School, where I learned quickly just how different of a society I had moved into.
The biggest changes were being in a school with a minimum of 2200 students and the heavy agricultural influence. My first week was uneventful with the exception of getting to know my new school. It wasn't until the fourth week of school when my agricultural science teacher, Mrs. Brown took me and my several others from my class to a "Green Hand Conference" where we learned about team work, but, most importantly, about all the different career paths in agriculture, including computer engineering. I was unsure at first but as the day went on, I was getting more and more hooked on the idea. However, being slightly wiser than I had in similar situations in the past I realized I am now in high school and that I should really only set a goal I am going to follow through with, because it could be my major
someday.

To this day, my heart and goal is to become a Agricultural Computer Engineer. I've worked diligently since that day to reach my goal, setting everything in place as much I as I can. This includes doing everything possible in my ag classes, including advancing to the next level at the end of every year. I am also continually working towards my goal which was set in my sophomore year to become a music minor. This includes advancing to the highest level of choir available, chamber choir, and improving my music skills as much as possible each year. During the years of working towards my goal, I have also had to work towards my goal of getting into the college of my choice, which is a must in order to achieve my career goal. I am into my first week of my last year of high school and working harder than ever to get into the college of my choice including passing every class on my schedule whether it is necessary to graduate or not. I have also taken on A Cross Age Tutor position for a second period ag class to help make my goal that much closer to reality.

I was once told I should always try to accomplish both my dreams and my goals, because even if I don't succeed I can benefit from my experiences and help me to succeed in the dreams and goals I seek later in life. It is this belief that has kept me going throughout all my years of ups and downs. Ever since that faithful day, three years ago, I took one look forward and I never looked back.
