Never Give Up A Ship Essay
In Annapolis, Maryland at the United States Naval Academy, in beautiful Memorial Hall, there hangs a flag which is hand stitched bearing the words “Don't Give Up the Ship”. This defining, historic quote was uttered by Naval Captain James Lawrence who was injured and dying aboard the USS Chesapeake. It inspired his men to not give up the ship where they were aboard, and continue to fight with all their hearts. Being the son of two former Naval Commanding officers, I hear this quote a lot in attempt to pump me up. For myself, it motivates me to always never give up my “ship”, or goals and aspirations. I believe that no one should ever give up on what their dreams are or something they want to accomplish.
Everyone needs to work hard for what they want to accomplish. Hard work and never giving up on what you believe in or desire, always translates to success. Whether it is a sporting match, academics, or something that requires mental focus and energy; a person's goal should be to work hard and never give up till the very end. Hard work is the payment to achieve success. It may be tiring, it may be physically demanding, it may take a lot of brainpower, but one

Everyone has a dream that they should work for to make them happy. That dream only comes true once someone puts in hard work and extraneous amounts of effort to achieve it. Once they achieve their dream, they start a new one. For many people my age, the dream may be college, a career path, or accomplishing something in the future they always have wanted to do. My dream is to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison and be a member of the marching band. I know that not only will I have to work hard academically, I will have to practice my marching and always keep a positive attitude, even when the pressure is heavy to do well. The things I must always remember are to give my best, dream big, and “Full speed ahead, Don't give up the

However, success is about working hard toward something and achieving a goal. Each and every person should set small goals for themselves on a regular basis. Setting small goals will then lead to setting even bigger goals since you know you can accomplish small ones. When those goals are met, in addition to being feeling elated, you will also feel better about yourself knowing you were successful in accomplishing a goal that you had previously set. Everybody’s definition of success is different, however, success can only be attained if you work hard toward it because nothing will ever come easy in…

There are many types of goals. Growing up, I always dreamed of being two things: a mother and a nurse. I am blessed to have two wonderful children ages 14 and 16 and have had the privilege of being able to be a stay-at-home mom during their younger years. Now that they are older and a bit more independent, I have decided to go back to school and fulfill my goal of earning my degree in Nursing. Throughout the years of growing and maturing, I have learned how important it is to have good morals, values, goals, a passion for something, and a good education. I have not only taught my children the importance of these characteristics, but I have also shown them that regardless of one’s age or stage in life, that…

As the young and naive children we were, adults always told us to never give up on our dreams. This statement usually applied to the impractical dreams of becoming president of the United States, transforming into a superhero, or playing alongside professional athletes. These were all big ideas and aspirations that fueled our carefree childhoods, and were appropriate practice for shaping the paths to our true passions we discover later on in our lives; particularly in high school. High school is where teenagers are able experiment and begin to understand themselves as individuals, rather than what everybody else likes to do. Of course there are exceptions to those who are the “followers” rather than the “leaders”, but I’d like to claim I had…

“Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom”(George S. Patterson). In life odds are that you will not reach your goal on your first try. In fact, you’ll get knocked down or out of your path multiple times in your life. So it's good to have multiple plans in your life. My goal is to play football after high school, but I realize there is a good chance that won't happen. Either the team I want to play for doesn’t offer me or just that I wasn’t good enough. My goal and dream is to play college football.…

Michael Jordan once said “I’ve failed over and over and over again and that’s why I succeeded.” If you don’t even try in life you will never be successful. When you want to be successful as bad as you want to breathe then you be successful. Success is about developing personal wisdom and competence or what could be called personal mastery in the field you want to succeed in. Nothing is ever impossible to accomplish in life. You have to be determined that you can do the impossible. If you have determination you can overcome the adversities in life.…

Being petrified to accomplish a dream is what haunts myself from trying to succeed. Finally figuring out what to do with my life was the beginning of a turning point for me, now it was time to follow through that dream and go to college. As I stated in the previous paragraph, a lot of the world today thinks money is the true sign of success and my mom and dad we’re firm believers in that. I figured that they wouldn’t be proud of their son because he wants to write for a living. “If you didn’t have a career as a businessman or something else that’s high paying we think of you as a failure” was always something I would expect my dad would say to me. Which is why college at the time was not my main priority for me once high school was over. The…

The magic of hard work and perseverance cannot be underestimated. We see in general that people who have succeeded in life have done an immense amount of hard work and their success is we all see, but the effort put in, we fail to measure. We do wonder how he could achieve so much, but it is absolutely certain that achievement has come his way after much of continued effort. Most of us do make efforts but, soon lose heart and leave our projects and this is why we fail to reach the pinnacle of success. It must be clear in our minds that, we never can achieve with just a simple raising of a finger, we have got to put our heart and soul in a particular job and that also with continued vigour in every attempt then only we can hope for any success. Those of us who leave effort midway are obviously left midway by success also, and then we are disheartened and broke, just to ogle jealously at those who have succeeded. If we have the confidence in our effort, there is nothing that can deter us from…

Many lives are founded upon wishful thinking that is why they don’t always progress towards something deeper. I was only five years old then when I started to dream to be a teacher. And as time goes by. That dream changed. As we grow old, I discovered my talent, skills that made my dream become higher. And these dreams turned to be my goals in life. In order to reach one’s dream, I have 4 points here to consider. First, setting of your goal. Identify goals that you want to accomplish and based it according to your capabilities. And have a clear purpose on why you wanted to accomplish it. Secondly is what I called “first thing first!”. In other words, do one thing at a time. Identify the task that is more and least important. Do first the thing that is more important. The third one is being totally committed. Once your goal is clear, be committed in achieving it. And never look back. Lastly is having faith in God. As written in the bible…
