College Admissions Essay: Short And Long Term Goals
In the next few months I will be thrown into a different city ten hours away from home. It is imperative for me to make both short and long term goals so I can ensure a successful end to high school and a good start to college. Most of my short term goals are still based on my high school state of mind. I can’t see past graduation because after that everything will be completely new. I the next three months I hope to get the most out of the people around me and the familiarity of my surroundings. I think it is important for me to slow down and not rush through my final few months with the people I’ve known since kindergarten. Middleville is unique in the way many of the students have attended the school system for most or all of their lives, so I’m trying my hardest to not get …show more content…
Throughout my high school career I tried to make it a point to diversify the activities I am involved in. I’ve participated in everything from french club to golf. I suppose the goal of being a well rounded person can never be completed because I’m a firm believer that everyone can teach you something new, so I want to continue to talk to people and be involved especially throughout college. Sometimes it’s hard to put yourself out there like that, but I think in college is about finding who you are so I’d just like the opportunity to challenge myself academically and socially. As for my career, that is in fact what I want, a career not a job. I really want to be proud of what I’m doing. The ultimate goal is to be a chemical engineer helping the environment and making a difference. I know getting the degree itself will be difficult because of the classes an engineering major must go through, but I’m prepared to do the work. I also realize it may take me awhile to work up to the job I want and waiting can be difficult, but I am determined to help make change

My goal in the next couple years is to grow as a pediatric nurse and hopefully move into a bigger apartment and save enough money to get a decent car. As I reach the top of the pediatric nurse division I would like to save enough money to get an apartment or house closer to home because the distance between my family is becoming unbearable or an alternative would be to visit my family more frequently. I will like to be able to take care of my mom by taking her out to eat, pamper her, and get the essentials she needs so she can relax. However, until my goals are reached I want to make the best out of San Francisco by first exercising every day ( keeps me positive), make time for friends and family (keeps me sane), love the job that I am doing and work hard. My life in San Francisco will consist of taking care of myself mentally and emotionally, prioritizing my social life and work, and lastly growing as an individual. I want to be able to answer at least a portion of who Melissa Palmerin truly is and be able to be efficient at the things I struggle with…

Years ago, my neighbor had this bumper sticker, “You were created for something awesome. Find your purpose.” I would see this bumper sticker every day, and hope that, indeed, someday, I would find my purpose. I never imagined that I was meant for more than being a mom and wife. Content with my role, I still kept hoping my awesome purpose would make itself known. For most of my adult life, I have struggled to define success -success, in the sense, that I have never been where I wanted to be. I grew up in a small one-bedroom apartment in East Los Angeles where we struggled to pay the monthly rent of $500. My grandmother had been renting this apartment for 30 years. My mother and her four siblings were raised in this apartment. None of my grandmother’s children graduated from high school. Instead, they drove trucks for a living, joined the armed services or went to prison. This would make graduating from high school and attending college very difficult for me.…

“Your father and I have decided you will stay locally, it will be a lot easier for us.”, it was these words that trembled and traumatized my thoughts. In a flashback, I realized I was the same parent-centered child, that was raised to obey and not question the parents’ authority. I remember my parents asking “What do you want to be when you grow up?” In response, ” I had no clue.” They constantly encouraged me to go to college throughout my high school career. If for some reason I had to stay for my AP class, they would motivate me. High school was the time in my life, where I had to apply to higher education institutions, and when my torment began.…

Freshman year was not my best and I know I could do so much better. To avert disappointment and negativity in general, I plan to be more self-aware of significant issues and actually act for a different outcome. The Personal Skills Map helped to classify my strengths and weaknesses, and I am grateful to have such a useful tool to aid me in improving and most importantly keep moving forward. High school may be a challenging time with many expectations to adhere to, but I think it is one they key lessons to be learned (without them, what would be the point?). I will apply the quote by Rachel Wolchin, “The new year means nothing if you’re still in love with our comfort zone” to my own life in order to fulfill my…
