Personal Narrative: My Freshman
When I took my first success profiler in the beginning of my freshman year, I was okay with my score and looked at it as a starting point, expecting natural progression. As any eighth grader would be, I was more than ecstatic. .Now I have experienced all the wonderful perks of being a freshman, and have a very different point of view than I did when I was fresh out of middle school. Ninth grade had an incredible impact on my mindset, and it was difficult to say the least. An enormous workload, early mornings, sleepless nights, and the level of patience that was required forced me to address problems I didn’t even know existed. The hard work made me identify the reality of high school. In order to analyze my development or decline, I will compare and contrast my old and newest maps, highlight improvements, and set goals for the following year. My first profile was about 63.6% in the green, and by my second profile it dropped 27.3% to 36.3% green. The highest score was an 84 for my self-esteem, and remains …show more content…
Freshman year was not my best and I know I could do so much better. To avert disappointment and negativity in general, I plan to be more self-aware of significant issues and actually act for a different outcome. The Personal Skills Map helped to classify my strengths and weaknesses, and I am grateful to have such a useful tool to aid me in improving and most importantly keep moving forward. High school may be a challenging time with many expectations to adhere to, but I think it is one they key lessons to be learned (without them, what would be the point?). I will apply the quote by Rachel Wolchin, “The new year means nothing if you’re still in love with our comfort zone” to my own life in order to fulfill my

High school: a major transition in many teen’s lives that poses some confusing, yet important, questions. Who am I? Where do I belong? What am I going to do with my life? I was caught up in all of these questions, and quite frankly, life didn’t seem so simple or easy anymore. Day after day I would struggle with keeping everything in balance and worried about all of the little things. My life seemed to slowly slip up until I couldn’t seem to handle everything. When I first arrived at high school, I was extremely nervous. The school was huge and there was not a familiar face in site. Although I was nervous, staff and students did their best to create a positive learning environment. Going into my sophomore year, I received the same positive energy from the staff and my peers. My guidance counselor, Ms. Hunter, helped me to prepare and offered me the opportunity to enroll in…

Throughout my years of high school I have always strived for the best grades that I could attain, and they didn’t come easy. There were plenty of distractions that had driven me off course. Whether it was long hours at practice, volunteering for my community, or having a part-time job, I couldn’t let these activities hinder my grades. This purpose had sprung in me, to not only strive in my extracurricular activities, but also my schoolwork. Balancing both school and additional activities wasn’t a simple task. This led me to many sleepless nights, in which I had to tutor myself on certain topics I was struggling on. This ranged from my hardest subject, to studying extra hours on my hardest class, and even simple topics that I needed extra work…

Freshman Composition has done so much for me academically. In previous years I have had to do little to no writing and even when we did there were no rules or writing process we had to follow. This class has built a great basis for me, towards my academic future. I do realize that I am far away from being even an average writer, but I enjoy and accept that challenge to myself on becoming a competent writer. Parts of my writing, that still need to work are my introductions and sentence fluency. While I believe that my strong suits are, that once I get past my obstacles of writing that I have the potential to write something that will make a difference, other than that all my skills are still very raw. I’ve learned many things during EN101, the…

Back in 2012 I was accepted into Early college academy at south-ridge (ECAS). This school is particularly special because it allows high school students to take dual credit courses in a community college. Obtaining high grades in my classes while also being required to do my best was something I always had trouble with. I was the the type of person who didn't mind a 70 when it came to report cards, until I found out colleges didn't like students with low grades or at least with low performance like me. My freshman year I made the decision to improve my grades and become a better student.…

When I started my first semester at Florida SouthWestern, I found myself under a crushing amount of stress and believed I would be overwhelmed within the first week. I also convinced myself that the Cornerstone Experience was a significant waste of my time. However, throughout the semester my opinions changed as the course introduced me to several important topics that I found myself referring back to throughout the semester: financial literacy, time management and wellness and stress management.…

When I first stepped into Anderson High School as a freshman, I was exceedingly confident in myself. I played sports, had gotten good grades, and planned to have an amazing high school career. Freshman and sophomore year were a breeze. If I am being straightforward, I did not focus much on my schoolwork. I did what was required of me and got good grades, but I did not go above and beyond. I had always been told by upperclassman, “It only gets harder from here. Enjoy it while you can.” Now I realize what that means.…

Once you’ve been in school for nearly 12 years of your life you think you know all of the tricks to conquering the school year. When a problem arises you think you know the easy way out of it or the perfect way to avoid it. Some kids probably believe that as you continue on through your education these problems will just simply decrease. As a junior in high school, I’ve come to find that that assumption couldn’t be more false. High school came as a scare to me and I felt that I was the only one going through those typical teenage problems; however, after reading How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character, by Paul Tough, I began to gain some of my confidence back.…

Entering high school is very nervous at first because of new teachers you’ll meet if it is terror or a kind, classmates if they are bullied and even the environment. There’s a chance that sometimes you ask yourself if this high school would be great as elementary years? Or same as kinder years? Because in elementary and kinder we’re always guided by our parents to do home works from school and they are one who is liable whatever we do in our school but, in high school, we are the one who faced all the things we’ve done and decisions that we’ve made. But the good things about high school is we’re about to learn more advanced things that will help in our studies and careers in the future, and that time of processing, we are preparing ourselves to go out and explore and discover more things in the real world.…
