I am a junior at DeWitt Clinton High School. This is my third year being part of the Future Educators program. I look forward to continuing this program throughout my senior year. I am also honored and very excited to be a candidate for the Monroe College Jumpstart program. When I first arrived at high school, I was extremely nervous. Going into my sophomore year, I received the same positive energy from the staff and my peers. My guidance counselor, Ms. Hunter, helped me to prepare and offered me the opportunity to enroll in

If I had to choose a career--one that utilized my skill set--I would choose to be a computer technician. As far back as I can remember, computers and technology have always fascinated me. I enjoy the range of problems computers present. At home and at work, people would bring me their computer problems and technology questions to be solved. It wasn't until my friend Gracie said to me, "You know, you should get paid for this." that I realized being paid for performing a passion should be my focus. I knew that I needed to polish up my technical knowledge of computers. I soon enrolled in a Computer Technician course at Penn Foster University, an online career school. Having learned more about PC hardware,…

I’s truly grateful for all the supports given to get this far because high school helped changed and mold me to become the young lady that I is today. It helped further my education and I continue to pray to the lord above that I can stay on track because only God knows where I’m headed with this education; but for sure it’s for a better me. Hopefully my years at Concordia will be the years of…

During my junior year i took pre calculus and had one of the most difficult teachers at Woodcreek High School. The way he taught was very difficult, when we did not understand something he would get impatient and just move on. He also, didn't put much of effort into helping us or even cared if we succeeded. A month into the semester approximately half the class had complained about him and a third had transferred to the “easier” pre calculus class. I am not the kind of person who gives up and quits something because it is hard but when my friend told me she had an A in the “easy” class and I was sitting with an impressive 68% I was really tempted to.…

I wanted to try a lot of new things, and I decided that high school is the place to start. I didn't only want to go to this school because of the chance of success, but because of the experience I will gain. The drab thought of not getting into BCTHS would've made me sullen. The thought of high school always scared me until I was told one day that high school is all about what you make it, so I decided to concede my fears. I decided that if you choose not to do the work, you are choosing to be unsuccessful and to be displaced out of the school. If you choose to be out going, thoughtful, respectful, and courageous, it will be everything you hope for. Once I have realized that I was the only thing standing between making or breaking my high school experience, I knew this was where I needed to be to be happy. I decided that there was one school I had to attend to insure that my high school experience would be everything I wanted it to be, and that school was BCTHS. I am now not afraid to attend high school, and I cant wait to embark on this journey with you and all of my other…

In my first 7 weeks at West Career and Technical Academy, I have actually learned a lot. When I was about to go to school, I was worried about being the ‘baby’ of the school as a freshmen, crowded hallways, not learning my way around the campus, I wouldn’t get my homework done every night and many more things. High school is not as frightening as I thought. The map of the school is fairly easy to learn, it took a lot of time management to get all of my homework done every day, and I have made many new friends.…
