Jay Bilas said, “A student is leaving one school to attend another and participate in an extracurricular activity, the NCAA says that college athletics is just an avocation, which means it is a hobby” (Solving the Transfer Question). This shows how playing a sport is just a hobby and should not limit student-athletes from changing schools for fear of sitting out of their sport. This problem can easily be solved and it has been talked about for an ongoing amount of time. However, it is time stop talking and solve the problem of the student-athlete transfer.
Any athlete should be allowed to transfer schools at any time, the transferring athlete should be eligible to play their sport immediately at the new school. Obviously, this would not mean that the player can transfer at halftime of a game. Say a football season kicks off and at game five a player is unhappy and transfers to a new school, he will not be allowed to play in game six for that school but, with this new policy, he will be immediately eligible for game one of next season.
