College Hockey Research Paper

College has so far exceeded my expectations in a huge way. As a new member of the ice hockey team there were many uncertainties and worries, as well as tons of excitements and anticipations. Obviously the biggest part, school, was nerve wracking and exciting too. In college hockey its very common that players take a few years off of school prior to attending, to play hockey in junior hockey leagues. This created a bit more nerves then excitement for the classroom aspect of school since i've only taken 3 college courses since graduating high school, making it a bit harder to get back into the swing of things. Besides getting back into school routine, being a hockey player in college has made the beginning

Since my roommate is also on my team it was a huge relief to meet someone before our parents even left. Since then it's been smooth sailing and have made number of friends on the team, many which I already know ill be very good friends with in the future. This was probably the biggest relief for me so far because I had no idea what to expect. I kept worrying about how the kids, especially the new recruits, would be and literally every one is an awesome person. I didn't realize how much being on a sports team would help me make friends this fast, which I am extremely grateful for. We've all had so much fun already and we are just one week into school. On top of all of that, we are all at least 20 years old and up as freshman. I think this gives us a big advantage of transition for things like college because we are all at least two years more mature then we would have if we had gone right from high school. Now that is not to toot my or any of my friends horns, but I do feel as if the maturity level is definitely higher then it would have been by the overall way we carry and present ourselves as opposed to being 17 or 18. If the year is going to continue on like this, I can only imagine how much fun it's going to be. This is also all going without mentioning the hockey part. Hockey hasn't even started yet which excites me that much more. …show more content…
The school aspect of college hasn't really sunk in yet since were not very far into the semester. It definitely concerns me somewhat, but I think I will end up doing well. I naturally have a good work ethic through hockey, so I plan on using that into the classroom. Sure it will be harder sometimes because of practices and games and whatnot, but thats what my teammates and the rest of the accommodations that Potsdam supplies for us are for. It's a good start for me professor wise, since pretty much all of them seem to be very good at what they do. The only thing that has gotten me a little annoyed and anxious about is all the reading. Reading takes up a lot of time and that what most of college is. My time management needs to be very efficient if I'm going to do well this year. I hope my next four years here will just keep getting better and better as I meet new people and explore new things. There is still so much I haven't done yet and so many experiences I have to look forward too as long as my school works stays up to

One blistering summers’ day in Northwest Florida, home for college, Jay was cleaning out the garage. This was apart of his mother’s summer clean sweep project, which she did every year. Jay comes from a family who is very involved in sports. So as he was singing the childhood clean up and going through and sorting the football pads, softballs, baseball, batting and fielding gloves, sweet bands, and other athletic equipment and sports wear he came across a recognizable object. It was his old bat. The Bat he used in little league almost 10 years ago. This was the first bat that Jay ever had. As Jay held the dusty, paint chipped, dry-rotting but yet still majestic bat in his hands, fond memories of the typical day at the ballpark began to flood his mind.…

My overall freshman experience was very different in comparison to my 1st semester. I originally enrolled at North Carolina Central University in the Fall of 2014. So coming back was bittersweet because I was already familiar with the basics of living on campus and the structure of classes, but I still had to get use to the changes of being in college again. I am thankful that I have a strong support system because it makes the challenges you face in college a lot easier. Some of the struggles you may face financially was thankfully taken care of by my family, so I would not have to get a job and have that interfere with my schoolwork. I also have friends who help keep me on track. They definitely are an important factor when it comes to my college…

I’m going into this year knowing it will be challenging, critical, but most all, knowing it will be the best year in high school. I hope to be a part of a great senior class, and make great personal and academic achievements. One thing I’m excited about, is my first year taking an A.P. course. A.P. Government has already been a challenge so far, only 3 days into the course. Also, English being my favorite subject, I have high expectations for the literature I will get to read. And I’m so excited about being a senior in general. Getting to have senior field day, and Project Graduation are things I’m expecting to be very fun. I can hardly wait.…

Luckily I was wrong college is nothing how I expected it to be.…

College is the first start of a whole new chapter of every person’s life. As I began college and walked through the doors for the first day I took a deep breath and could feel my future approaching. Beginning college doesn’t mean that you just begin school to be in school, it means you’re contemplating your future and beginning a task that would create your life. I felt a sense of worry because I was unaware of college life and what the teacher’s expectations were, if I would make it academically, and how well I would be socially in making new friends.…

Life is full of surprises and difficulties. A college can make your life are changing after you walked into the campus at first day in college. I used to think about the class in college which is different from in high school. Those people who are older than me, they have told me that college would be new life for me. That college would show me what is the differently between college and high school. I was really wondering about it, I didn't know anything since the first year and first day. Everything I knew before I went to college that was I had to studied more harder, and I won't have many friends like I did in high school. The most things that I was interesting is about the course class, the education, the campuses. They took me to a new look, and they show me what is real college life.…

Now I will have a roommate to be considerate of. I will decide if I should attend a party or go to a club without someone's approval. I can go to the club with out my mom having the final verdict. I will hang out with my friends anytime I want to. I will have to learn how to manage my own money and time. At the end of the day college is all of what I make it. May it be hard for some and easy for others it is up to me to decide how I will adjust to college life; will I go to class; study for my test; waste my money; like my roommate?…

My expectation for college were off because I was not able to get the schedule I desired, class work would be different, and responsibilities. My schedule was not how I was expecting it would be for college. I thought it would be the way you wanted it but that did not happen. There we’re classes that were full or there were no classes for the days you wanted to go to class. I wanted my classes to be only 3 days in a week from 9am-2pm but I didn’t get the days I wanted but the hours I did. Also I really though the homework would be much harder, but its almost the same as high school so far and hopefully its the same all the years I have left for college. There much reading I have to do more than I was expecting but I think I could deal with it. There for being responsible in college is a big role of a new college student, you have to get there on time if not they will lock the door on you. In high school if you were late to class you might get in trouble by the teacher but in college if you late they lock the door on you and maybe even remove you from the class. For homework if you don’t turn it in on its due date you cant turn it in no more unlike high school we’re you do get some points if you do turn it in late. So in some way college is different then high school but in others it…
