College Sports Research Paper
College Sports Colleges come in all different shapes and sizes. Some are well known with thousands of students, others are more humble with a few hundred students. But almost every college has one thing in common and that’s sports. Nearly all the colleges across america have sports teams. However, there are varying opinions on the role sports play in a student's college life. Some agree that sports are extremely important because they earn money for the school and attract the attention of students. Others think that people are forgetting the academics of the school letting students who play on sports teams get by with just their athletic ability. But most agree with both sides of the argument that both sports and academics are key parts to a student and the college's success. If a young high school student was looking at colleges they want to attend most would probably look at the school their favorite sports team plays at. This is one of the reasons sports teams are so important. They can attract the attention of future students. Another reason is that sports teams can …show more content…
They believe that college is a place solely for education, not sports. There is some truth to this, since some students can get full scholarships based on their athletics rather than their grades. But this doesn’t mean that sports should be completely removed from colleges. For example, some students have trouble keeping their grades up enough to get into the college they wanted to, so they turned to sports and earned a scholarship to their dream college. Some students don’t have the money to afford their dream college and they don’t have the grades to get a scholarship so sports was their only way. The fans that watch the college sports could be aspiring athletes who want to go to college where their idols went. Removing sports could crush thousands of aspiring athletes

Education needs to be placed on the forefront, while athletics should come after, regardless of how good the athlete may be in his or her choice of sport. Unfortunately, this is a drawback for some athletes – having to maintain their eligibility. Some students maintain great grades during high school and possibly are awarded a scholarship to a school of higher learning so to speak. When all too often, the only reason they are awarded to go there is to play the sport they excel in. These actions can and will play an important part in the athlete’s future, if they do not have a back-up plan in academics. I remember not too long ago, a few high school graduates that were awarded scholarships to college to play football. I had asked one of the students what study they were majoring in. They said to me they did not know, they were going to be in home economics course to start. I think all too often, some colleges focus on the person as a whole. With this continually happening year after year, one would have to ask themselves how smart the children are in our society, or does it even matter as long as they can throw the ball seventy…

March Madness is more than a college basketball tournament; it’s a way of life for the entire month! Come spend March at the best local sports bar in Waynesville, OH, Gameday Grille and Patio. Gameday Grille and Patio is the ideal place to watch March Madness for many reasons. The first reason is that they have TONS of flat-screen televisions. One blistering summers’ day in Northwest Florida, home for college, Jay was cleaning out the garage. This was apart of his mother’s summer clean sweep project, which she did every year. Jay comes from a family who is very involved in sports. So as he was singing the childhood clean up and going through and sorting the football pads, softballs, baseball, batting and fielding gloves, sweet bands, and other athletic equipment and sports wear he came across a recognizable object. It was his old bat. The Bat he used in little league almost 10 years ago. This was the first bat that Jay ever had. As Jay held the dusty, paint chipped, dry-rotting but yet still majestic bat in his hands, fond memories of the typical day at the ballpark began to flood his mind.…

Not only are they spending more money on college sports rather than educational purposes, they’re also increasing student tuitions in order to pay for the expenses of athletics, making it almost unattainable for students with financial difficulties to pursue higher education. American colleges and universities don’t seem to have their priorities straight, focusing and spending way too much money on athletics rather than education, and trying to make college more attainable for students who are struggling financially. Educating students and preparing them is their core mission, which is where their priorities should…

The impacts of college sports have influenced the American culture through the economy and entertainment provided by collegiate athletes. The influence of a winning sports team reaches beyond the athletes of the university to anyone and everyone associated with the school. Recruiting athletes plays a major role in the popularity of the sporting events, which is why recruits are not just athletes, but also stellar scholars. Technological advances greatly impacted college sports by making talented athletes famous, and making sports entertainment a popular and important source of school revenue (Sack 31). College sports have affected American entertainment and the economy, influencing culture in both positive and negative ways.…

The existence of college athletics is often justified on the grounds that its success attracts students and is far more than just extracurricular activities. I tend to agree with that. However, a common counterpoint is its cost. Those who believe this statement students argue they shouldn't support athletics since its rising expenses and the pursuit of more revenue to support college sports have become a destabilizing force. Such as the words of Sally Jenkins, "Athletic departments take in more money than ever — and spend it just as fast". That is an understandable concern. Most of the time, college spending on athletics seems is growing far more quickly than spending on academics, and seems mostly dependent students fee. Even though college…

College has so far exceeded my expectations in a huge way. As a new member of the ice hockey team there were many uncertainties and worries, as well as tons of excitements and anticipations. Obviously the biggest part, school, was nerve wracking and exciting too. In college hockey its very common that players take a few years off of school prior to attending, to play hockey in junior hockey leagues. This created a bit more nerves then excitement for the classroom aspect of school since i've only taken 3 college courses since graduating high school, making it a bit harder to get back into the swing of things. Besides getting back into school routine, being a hockey player in college has made the beginning…

The reason that a person goes to college is to get a better education and prepare them for what may lie ahead in the future. But it is becoming more and more evident that education is not the priority of most student athletes or some coaches. It is because of the win-at-all-costs motto that so many athletes and coaches believe in nowadays. Some student-athletes do not get a proper education because of the emphasis put on competing in sports and winning in college athletics. This can hinder a student athlete's performance in the classroom.…
