It made the moms more focus and more determine to graduate from college because they had someone else they have to take care of. It was not just about them anymore. Furthermore, I feel that none of the student moms want to quit college because the disappointments they will receive. Especially in cases where the parents plays a big role in taking care of the child while they are in classes. Most of the parents of the student moms were finally okay with the news of the unplanned pregnancy when they found out the student moms were still able to graduate from college. Consequently, the student moms concentrate more in their schoolwork in order to succeed. Of course, they had to make sacrifices along the way. For example, EG mentioned not being able to “live it up” her last year of college, she had to watch her friends go downtown every night while she had to stay home. At the same time, there is an added pressure for them to graduate. The moms I interviewed did not focus on their cultural background as a big part of their life or reacted strongly on that subject. Only one of the mom is African American and another mom could have been Hispanic based on her name but she did not mention that to me during the interview. Thus, the group of moms I interviewed was not that diverse in race. Only SD mentioned her family being catholic and hinting at the fact that it could be a reason why her mom wanted an abortion. Even when I asked about their friends’ cultural background, most of the moms said there were no noticeable differences in their reactions. SL did say that her more religious friends wanted her to get married since she was having a baby with him and they loved each other.
