Coming Of Age
The Transformative Component of Love and Loss The coming of age happens when a person transitions from childhood to adulthood. It doesn’t happen overnight, but rather gradually, over many events that help form and change the child into an adult. This coming of age happens when someone experiences something significant in their life that makes them change in a way they never had before. Coming of age can be hard, depending on the component or emotion that brings about this change. A person can experience a lot through this process and transform the way they think and act from that moment forward. A person begins to mature, and grow through this process. In this essay, I will be talking about two of the most transformative emotional components …show more content…

Early in the story, Juliet was obedient to her parents, a shy and innocent girl who had not had experience with love, at least in a relationship way. The event that brought about Juliet’s coming of age experience all started when Romeo and his friends went in disguise to a masked party that the where not welcome at, due to the long lasting feud between the two families. Juliet and Romeo meet at the party and instantly fall in love. When Juliet fell in love with Romeo, she would do anything to be with Romeo, even disobey her parents. Due to the family rivalry, no one supported their relationship, but Juleit did not care who supported her as long as she had Romeo. Juleit experiences love so strongly that she would do anything for Romeo. This is proven through the quote “My bounty is as boundless as the sea”. My love is deep, the more I give to thee, the more I have, for both are infinite.” The quote by Juliet proves that she has grown and matured in the component of love. This quote shows that she feels this emotion so strongly and is saying there is no limit to her love for Romeo. And she feels this so intensely that she is willing to kill herself if she cannot be with him. Through this play, Juliet’s actions before she felt love and after she felt love are very different. She grows and changes once she feels this

Forswear it, sight! / For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night’ , but they also respect each other. Neither attempts to impose his or her will on the other; neither places his or her welfare above the other. Juliet’s feelings towards Romeo: ‘My bounty is as boundless as the sea, / My love as deep; the more I give to [Romeo], / The more I have, for both are…

There have always been challenges that a young adolescent must make to become an adult. Whether it was one hundred years ago, or today in this day and age, the challenges are ever so present. Unfortunately, the challenges faced back then were far more harsh and difficult for the young adults compared to the present. They lacked the technology, resources, and knowledge we now possess today. Most jobs one hundred years ago had to be physically done by people, not machines, which the 21st century seems to love. Although times are now different in the sense of materials and knowledge, the society and traditional structure of becoming an “adult” still stands; you get a job, you get married – you are an adult. There are plenty more things that need to be done and prepared for before even entering the work world, let alone becoming an adult.…

Have you ever seen real courage? Not the kind you see in movie and books, I’m talking about the kind not many talk about. The people who have that kind of courage, are the ones who have the tenacity to persevere no matter what. Many children don’t see this, until they witness it and learn from it, this is what you would call a coming of age experience. The Finch children encounter this in their life after many serious events. Some of these events in To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee include Mrs. Dubose’s death, the men arriving at the jail, Tom’s trial, and Bob Ewell’s attack and death. This will be mainly about the coming of age experience of Mrs. Dubose’s death for Jem. Before her death, Jem, after weeks of reading for Mrs. Dubose, had…

Coming of age happens at different ages for each human but its generally known as the transition from being a child to becoming an adult. It is a time where a person reflects on their own wants and goals, as well as, discovering who they are and finding a companion. When Juliet seeks her Nurse for help, she would do anything to protect her husband,“Oh God! O nurse, how shall this be prevented?/ My husband is on Earth, my faith in heaven” (3.5.216-217). Love is something that humans seek and for Juliet, Romeo was the person she saw as her other half. Her feelings for Romeo is a natural occurrence for humans and the control that love has over humans are regulated by a person’s maturity. If her parents did not introduce Juliet to the idea of marriage, her views for Romeo might not have occurred so soon. “But to be frank and give it thee again./ And yet I wish for the thing I have./ My bounty is as boundless as the sea,/ My love as deep. The more I give to thee,/ The more I have, for both are infinite” (2.2.138-142). Juliet is head over heels in love with Romeo and her feelings for Romeo completely control her emotions. Juliet then seeks acceptance of her relationship from her loved ones but does not receive what she hopes, which creates a whole different type of transitional…

James Joyce uses the narrator's coming of age in the story through his childhood. His childhood causes him to be blind to the reality of the world around him and he has a positive and happy outlook on everything in the beginning of the story. For example, “The space of sky above us was the colour of ever-changing violet and towards it the lamps of the street lifted their feeble lanterns. The cold air stung us and we played till our bodies glowed” (Gioia & Gwynn, p. 430). This causes the narrator to be ignorant to the harsh realities that surround him such as poverty.…
