Coming Of Age Ceremony

Many people now feel that the meaning of Coming-of-Age Day has been lost. “Sadly in recent years disrespectful behavior by 20-year-olds at the ceremonies – such as chatting loudly, using mobile phones during speeches and even fights at venues – have earned a lot of bad press. As a result there is some public resentment at spending taxpayers’ money on Coming of Age festivities”(David Boyd). Over the last few years the historical tradition has been nearly lost by Japanese culture due to the new young adults who don’t give this tradition the respect it once had. This can likely be blamed on the former generations who may have not properly passed down the tradition and its true meaning; and the decaying values of the current generation. Being introduced
as an adult is a big deal that sadly isn’t important to some. The tradition of Japan’s coming of age day has slowly faded away. In some places the holiday isn’t even celebrated and in others it's almost rare.
