Compare and Contrast
In my essay I talk about the baseball field putting me in a good place. The Baseball field is where I feel like my problems go away. The smell of the freshly cut grass and the chalk getting put down I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. The baseball field felt like home to me. When I am playing baseball I don’t worry about any other thing. When I am at the plate it’s just me and the pitcher. Also when I am playing baseball it brings me back to my childhood days when me and my dad where playing catch. Baseball is my family’s favorite sport. My family and I can sit in front of the TV and watch it for hours. My favorite memory of baseball is when I hit a homerun. I was smiling for weeks about it. I could hear my mom cheering so loud. At that time I had two tests that I didn’t study for but I was so focused on baseball it didn’t matter.
In the Sedaris essay he talks about his friend who took a trip to South Africa. He compares his friend experiences in Africa with his experience living in North Carolina. He talks about differences like going to the movie and the going on field trips. Sedaris said that when his friend went to a field trip to a slaughterhouse. He said his friend had to see a guy kill a goat. Sedaris Thought that was cool. He compared it to him going on a field trip to the Old Salem. He talks about the differences in going to the movies. Sedaris went to the movies where it was near a mall and he watched the Beverly Hillbillies. When his friend saw the same movie it was two months after the movie was out he had to sit on folding chairs and saw a dead guy hanging on a telephone. His friend’s family had many house cleaners and cooks. In North Caroline it was normal to have at least one house maid. Sedaris didn’t have many.
I liked the Sedaris essay because it’s funny and serous at the same time. It talks about the differences between the united states and Africa.
