Choosing the right college is not an easy pick. There are several factors that one should take into consideration before making a decision regarding your educational future and career. After all of the researching, making campus visits, and attending college-prep classes & workshops; and knowing that I only wanted to attend a university that offered online degree programs, I was able to narrow my choices down between two universities, Ashford University and University of Phoenix. As I write this paper, I will compare and contrast the similarities and differences between the two universities and show a clear understanding behind the reason why I chose Ashford University over University of Phoenix. First, I will address a few similarities between the two universities and then provide a few differences, which will bring me to the conclusion of why I chose Ashford University over University of Phoenix.
Both of the universities offer several of the same online capabilities. With online learning at both universities, you have access to check student email and communicate online with classmates, advisors, and instructors; access your student portal and participate in class discussions, and access a range of other academic functions such as, paying your tuition online, ordering textbooks, viewing grades, and requesting transcripts.
I am an undergraduate student and my major is Education with an emphasis in Secondary Education. Both universities offer an excellent degree program in the Education curriculum. An undergraduate degree, in Education at both universities, successfully prepares students to become teachers. The Education programs at both universities consist of several of the same components such as online coursework and, site-based practicum, and student teaching.
