First to say, Dr. King started this whole Civil Rights Movement in Montgomery, Alabama around 1955. At the time, the United States was segregated and Dr. King didn’t like that black people were being treated different because of the …show more content…
King had friends and family that supported him throughout the movement. A lady named Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white man on a bus so Dr. King decided to start the “bus boycott.” The “bus boycott” basically had black people not use the buses until they got to sit where they wanted to. King received many rewards for his leadership of trying to make everyone equal in the United States. He has received a Nobel Peace Prize and gave all the $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement and also named as a world figure. He was even well known for his “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington D.C in front of 250,000 people and his “Letter from Birmingham Jail.” “…he was arrested upwards of twenty times and assaulted at least four times; he was awarded five honorary degrees; was named Man of the Year by Time Magazine in 1963; and became not only the symbolic leader of American blacks but also a world figure.” I picked this quote to inform how Dr. King been through a lot to get his constitutional rights and still managed to receive a lot of rewards mainly at the age of thirty-five. In conclusion, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is an epic hero because he really did change people’s lives. What if he never stepped up? Would we all still be using different water fountains, bathrooms, and schools? People are discriminated all the time especially against their race and Dr. King felt like he had to do something. Dr. King protested non-violently and earned some many rewards for that. He got us to this great place today with no segregation, still need a little work but however, we all thank him for
