Christopher Boone 's Family Relationships Raising a child can be very difficult. There are many obstacles that parents face as they grow older, and they each form a special bond with them. In the curious incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon, two parents struggle to raise an autistic child. There are contrast and similarities in Chris ' relationship with his mother and father in three ways: Differences in the impact in Chris ' life, the honesty shown in each other 's relationship, and similarities in the love that they show towards him. Chris ' father tells Chris that his mother died, but the truth was she left them to live with Mr. Shears in London. Chris was not always honest with his father either, telling him a white lie when he asks Chris what he did all day. " 'I talked to Mrs. Alexander 's dog outside the shop. And it stroked him and he sniffed my trousers, ' which was another white lie. This quote proves that even Chris who thought he was incapable of lying, still was not completely honest with him. It was common for Chris and his father to hide things, such as his father hiding his mother from him, or Chris hiding the letters he took from his father. Chris and his mother 's relationship on the other hand has no secrets; His mother tells him everything in the letters she wrote to him. " 'I was not a very good mother, Christopher. Maybe if things had been different, maybe if you 'd been different, I might have been better at it. But that 's just the way things turned out ' (Haddon 106)." In this quote, Judy explains to Chris that if he was not autistic, she could have been a better mother. She was very straightforward to Chris unlike her father.
