With Ella Macbeth, there is a change made to her character to enhance the original traits of Lady Macbeth. Ella is made into the ideal femme fatale of the film. Lady Macbeth is best known for her manipulation and persuasion. Within this adaptation, although she still uses her dialogue as a tool she also uses her sexuality and power as a woman to influence Joe. Her seduction begins after hearing of his fortune; in a scene, the two characters sleep together and as they do she whispers her modern speech of persuasion. It is a more physical representation of her power and intrigue. Within the original play, Lady Macbeth calls upon the spirits to “unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full Of direst cruelty.” (1.5.48) The
