Compare and Contrast Essay In the short story “Gentleman of Rio en Medio” Don Anselmo and the narrator have many differences and similarities. Don Anselmo and the narrator also have different views about tradition and culture. Don Anselmo is very old and uses an umbrella skeleton for a cane. The narrator is very young and wants to get right to business. He works in a real estate office. Don Anselmo and the narrator’s different views are very unique. In the beginning of the story Don Anselmo had started a conversation, talking about the weather and his family in the village. The village he was talking about was a little town called Rio en Medio. He was very proud. The narrator’s opinion about this conversation was not swell. He wanted to get right down to business. In Gentleman of Rio en Medio, it had stated “There was a great deal of conversation, about rain and about this family. He was very proud of his large family. Finally we got down to business.” Also it had stated “…And talked about the weather. Finally I broached the subject. “Don Anselmo, about the ranch you sold to these people…” This explains the narrator’s impatience. Don Anselmo and the narrator’s similarities vary. In this story the characters are both male. They both feel it is okay to sell this land. To support this it says, “Yes, he would sell, as he had agreed, for twelve hundred dollars, in cash. We would buy and the money was ready.” “Finally he signed the deed and took the money but refused to take more than the amount agreed upon.” In Gentleman of Rio en Medio, Don and Anselmo have a lot of unique differences and their similarities vary. But they will always have them. This story was very confusing but in the end it all made sense. It made you understand more of how people at real estate offices and people from the town or city are very unique and different.and

In The Namesake based on the book and movie by Jhumpa Lahiri, there are several events and scenes that are interpreted differently throughout the film and book. The book is based on Gogol Ganguli, the son of immigrant parents Ashoke and Ashima Ganguli who struggles with his double identity and rebellion towards his family. The movie is quite different with its focus on the parents and their relationship more than Gogol, the main character. The characters in the book that are portrayed by the actors in the film are very important because it subtracts and diverts the focus of Gogol’s struggles who is the heart of the novel.…

The 1960’s was a carefree time period, a time when the “hippy” lifestyle was considered the norm. A time when the youth were often the voice, citizens were dedicated to bringing peace to the United States, the abolishment of segregation was occurring, and the Vietnam War had just begun. The poems I analyzed were both written in the early 1960’s, when segregation finally came to an end. Gwendolyn Brooks portrays the “carefree” lifestyle in her poem, “We Real Cool.” Brooks being an African American woman surprised me, because her focus was not on the current major topic of segregation, whereas in contrast, Bob Dylan being Caucasian chose to focus on segregation in his poem/song, “The Times They Are a-Changin.”…

Furthermore, when Don Rodrigo speaks in the play, the word honor comes up multiple times throughout the dialogue. The repetition of the word honor throughout the play, especially when Don Rodrigo speaks, goes to show the importance of honor, and it shows the power honor has in the society, as Don Rodrigo does not care about Doña Leonor’s life after she marries someone she might not love. He would rather keep his honor then let his own daughter decide what is best for her in her life. Honor comes before anything else in a person’s life, which can also be seen in colonial Mexico. Honor and gender come together in this piece of literature by showing the reader how honor is both important in a woman’s life and in a man’s life. However, it also shows that honor in a man’s life can have a greater control on a woman’s life. No matter what Doña Leonor is going to say or do, Don Rodrigo is going to make her marry a man. It does not matter who she is going to marry, but she is going to marry…

Throughout the lengthy history of the family the persistent replication of names had made her depict some conclusions that seemed to be clear. While the Aurelianos were withdrawn, with lucid minds, the José Arcadios were rash and enterprising, but they were marked with a tragic sign. The only cases that were impractical to classify were those of José Arcadio Segundo and Aureliano Segundo. They were so identical and so mischievous all through childhood that not even Santa Sofía de…
