Compare And Contrast Essay On Sports Research Paper
During the 1970s and 1980s respectively, the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers dominated professional football. From 1974 to 1989 the Steelers and 49ers went on to win a combined 8 super bowl championships each winning four respectively. These two great franchises produced many great players during this era as well as many great games. Since the year 2000, these two proud franchises went in totally different directions. The 49ers have only made two playoff appearances since the year 2000, while the Steelers have gone on to win two more super bowls and have made numerous playoff appearances. The Steelers have sent numerous players to the pro bowl and have landed a franchise quarterback, while the 49ers haven’t had a franchise quarterback since Steve Young’s retirement at the end of the 1999 season. The contrast between the two teams begin with the ownership. While the Steelers ownership has been solid since the beginning of the franchise under the control of the legendary Rooney family, the 49ers haven’t been run well since former owner Eddie DeBartolo gave up control of the organization to his sister back in 1999. The Steelers opened a new stadium earlier in the millennium, have continued to draft well, produced good players, and have kept an identity. …show more content…
Even though they have shown flashes of being good the last couple of years they have not been able to breakthrough and make their first playoff appearance since 2002. On the other hand the Steelers continue to be a contender year in and year out. Every year the Steelers always have one of the most physical and dominant defenses in the league, and every year they continue to put up double digit wins and make deep playoff runs. This past season the Steelers were close to winning their third super bowl in six years but was not able to pull it off, losing to the Green Bay Packers

Several weeks before, in a casual street-corner conversation, they had discussed the idea, but hadn’t given it much thought. From that room, one of the proudest and most storied NFL franchise.…

In Harrison's first season, he led the Colts in receiving. Infante would go on to lead the Colts to an identical 9-7 record in 1996 and another playoff appearance and another game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round.[22] However, this time the Steelers crushed the Colts to the tune of 14-42.[22] Team owner Robert Irsay would pass away in January, leaving the team to his son, Jim Irsay. The young Irsay's first year at the helm would not be easy, as the team posted a miserable 3-13 record in…

Would you rather be a Peyton Manning fan and love the broncos or be a fan of the Indianapolis Colts who own a multi- million dollar stadium in downtown Indy. Most bronco fans where colts fan but changed to the broncos when they got Peyton Manning. Once again, the slight advantage goes to the Broncos. Quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck have remarkably similar statistics, but Manning has been better defended. In the defensive statistics, the two teams are very close but the Broncos have the edge in this category too. Here's what linebacker Von Miller had to say about the Broncos' pass rush in the upcoming playoff game:"That is every week. You want to affect the quarterback. You just don’t want to have it seven on seven. We have great cornerbacks—probably…

This may be the hardest comparison because Montana was a full-time starter only 13 years. Brett Favre played in 110 more games than Montana, but there are things that hold Montana back from being the greatest of all time. Because it is unfair to compare Favre’s career totals to a quarterback that played five less years, let’s look at averages per season started (years with fewer than 200 attempts I will not use, which is Montana’s rookie year in 1979 and an injury year in 1992). Over Favre’s 16…

I have been to many basketball camps since I have entered high school. After a couple of years they become routine for players. I got my first opportunity this summer to go to a football camp at CHadron University which I figured couldn’t be too much different than a basketball camp. I figured you played a few games, went to bed, woke up sore and repeat the process like in basketball. I found out that there are actually a lot of differences between basketball and football camps then people would think.…

Today, I heard about a participation argument over trophies being gave for participating in sports. They get a trophy for playing the sport when they did not earn it. Parents don’t realize what they are doing to their kids by just giving them things without and work or earning it. I myself am against the idea of trophies for playing a sport or something unless you or your team did earn it.…

The two franchises share many similarities. Both franchises show different species coexisting with each other on multiple planets. Star wars focuses on the harsher side of co-existing with aliens, for example, bounty hunters who hunt and kill any alien for profit, while the Star Trek personalities just happen to bump into wrong aliens and have to fight them to defend themselves. Despite their different debuts with one starting as a television…

Both stories depict societies consisting of multiple planets and species. The main galaxy in Star Trek consists of various planets, each inhabited by different species, united into a single state, the United Federation of Planets. Star Wars depicts a galaxy that is mostly part of a single state known as the Old Republic, inhabited by humans and countless other species, which later became the Galactic Empire and was again later reformed into a new society called the New Republic after a series of wars. Both franchises promote philosophical and political messages, though Star Wars focuses more on the former while Star Trek focuses more on the latter. The main philosophies of Star Trek mainly convey the ethics of exploration and interference and how to properly confront and resolve a new situation. The main philosophical messages in Star Wars are the ethics of good against evil and how to distinguish them. Star Wars preaches against totalitarian systems and favors societies that offer…
