Pros And Cons Of Playing Sports Essay
Today, I heard about a participation argument over trophies being gave for participating in sports. They get a trophy for playing the sport when they did not earn it. Parents don’t realize what they are doing to their kids by just giving them things without and work or earning it. I myself am against the idea of trophies for playing a sport or something unless you or your team did earn it.
By personal experience my parents haven’t gave me anything if I asked for it. They made me go out and earn it or buy it with my own money. I have had a few jobs just to pay my phone bill monthly. Sports won’t be the only thing affected by this but just about everything will be, but not as bad as sports.
What people don’t realize is that if you're a true athlete you want to earn your praise. You don’t want to be handed a trophy or ribbon if you don’t place or earn it in some way. It will just make it worse because you think you're good but you’re in all reality not that good. To top it off you won’t be able to work on something because you don’t think you need to.

People will think that they will live off their parent’s income for the rest of their life if they don’t earn things. The pro sports teams won’t have as many players due to lack of eager and hard work. There will be talent but with that talent there will be no work due to people thinking 8th or last place is good. It’s not at all just look at our sophomore classes’ basketball team we know we have talent we just haven’t worked hard enough yet. We will get there though, our team will improve and learn to cope with each other as a team.
Clearly, I have given my counter argument. I believe that playing sports will get you a trophy you shouldn’t. That’s why I’m explaining my counter argument. I will hope that they stop giving these away for not earning anything and simply being handed a

Should everyone get a participation trophy? According to the "trophy's for all" policy, youth athletes are being awarded trophys for participating in a sport. Trophy's shouldn’t be given to everyone. Participation trophy's lose their meanings at times. People don’t get promotions for just showing up. On the other hand parents and coaches think that participation trophy's are motivating to youth athletes. Handing out trophies is a waste of time if youth athletes are not going to put in the effort to at least earn the trophy.…

Do you do things for the fun of it or for a prize? Many kids think they should get a trophy. Parents think otherwise they think getting a trophy is sending the wrong message. Trophies aren’t for everyone and everything, because trophies lose their meaning if everyone gets one, also trophies aren’t effective ways for coaches to bribe the team to do better, and you should do things for fun not for a prize.…

There might be a player that tries really hard, in contrast there could be a player that does not try at all, yet, both of those players are getting rewarded. Micah Nisley, a program director for leagues in Northeastern Tarrant county states, ´´ It is important to have a winner and a loser, but that should not be the main focus. The main focus should be learning how to play the sport, how to listen to a coach, and be part of a team.´´ This shows that being part of a team is not always about winning, Micah Nisley is showing that being part of a team, and listening to the coach is part of going to practice every day and working hard, Not every should be rewarded if they are not doing that. Not only do they send the wrong message but the money spent on participation trophies could be going to better…

Becoming an NCAA Division 1 athlete is a dream that most kids have growing up. Having thousands of fans, friends, and peers screaming your name as you step out onto the field, hitting that walk-off homerun, catching that game-winning touchdown, scoring that game-winning goal in overtime, or even, winning the national championship, is the epitome of all college athletes’ dreams. Student-athletes represent the school they play for. They play their absolute best and give 110% every time they are out on the field, so why should they not be compensated for all of the work they put in?…

Whether it be in the form of a ribbon, medal, or trophy, participation is commonly rewarded within organized sports teams as a way to give children incentive to try sports and engage in physical activities. While these trophies are intended to reward children for their contribution, the praise is undeserved, and will potentially create more harm than good in the future. A participation trophy is a tangible reminder that a child showed up to a game or tournament, but it has no fundamental value besides that. Through participation trophies, children receive the message that their success does not depend on their work ethic or abilities and by merely attending a sporting event, they have accomplished something without needing to put any effort in. Giving children the illusion that they have accomplished something when they have not, sets them up to think that they are entitled to praise or rewards. Granted, the idea of receiving a trophy or medal for participation sounds harmless because it motivates children to be active and participate in sports; however, parents should be mindful that they are potentially setting their kids up for a bad work ethic or mindset in the…

Some would argue that having all the kids get a trophy is showing the kid that they completed the season and that they did good, In reality the trophy is for getting through the season with hard work and doing good. Not for doing bad. Remember the next time kids go and play a game and get a trophy, Think! The kids lives will not work like that in the future, and the trophies will not be as important when everyone gets one. Everyone shouldn’t get trophies. There are some questions that are something like, won’t kids grades suffer with less time to do homework? And the answer to that recently asked question is no, no they won't. As we have said before There is a study that has shown that kids do better with grades when they play more sports! Probably because you have to keep your grades up to be able to play that sport and that is incentive enough. If there were more sports in our school then more kids will do better with grades, they don’t even have to be good. They just have to have fun playing the game, and that is why we should increase sports at our school. There are many more questions that parents and kids have been concerned about when it comes to sports. ( sports: how much is too…

One reason high school sports aren’t beneficial is because they create a lot of pressure. According to the video “Do Athletes Face Unnecessary Parent Pressure?” by KCRA, sports are sometimes the only way students can get into a good college and be able afford it. This puts a lot of pressure on the athletes to perform at their best 100% of the time. Experts say that your child's entire team will suffer if the parents are pressuring their kids (KCRA.com, “Do Athletes Face Unnecessary Parent Pressure?” ). This fact is important because it proves, when parents put pressure on their children it does not benefit them, in fact it is actually setting them up for life in an unhealthy way. This shows that the pressure from sports is not good and not worth it.…

Today many children expect to always receive an award when participating in sports, clubs, or other activities. This sense of entitlement is greatly impacting the younger generation and teaching them they do not need to strive to do their best. It also teaches them to just do enough to fit in with others. Michele Borba says, “Kids know when they deserve a trophy. Those unearned accolades make kids hooked on those awards. There goes the internal motivations and the joy of doing your best. What is the point of effort? If everyone is going to get a trophy for just showing up and breathing” (Axelson). Kids who work above and beyond to improve aren’t getting the appropriate recognition due to the entitlement of others.…

College athletes on scholarships have many advantages over regular college students. Student athletes on scholarships do not have to take out as plentiful student loans as regular students. They also do not acquire expenses such as room and board, and books. Many students on scholarships get away from thousands of dollars in debt that accumulate during college. A few would say that this alone, is payment enough for those students. Scholarships do not include outside costs and extracurricular activities that athletes may choose to be apart off. This can cause students to be involved in illegal activities to seek financially help.…
