Sanchez vs. Smith
In the last year the most talked about unsuccessful team has been the New York Jets. From signing Tim Tebow after his stand out 2011 season, to not using him or any of their other backup quarterback when Mark Sanchez continued to choke under the pressure, and now to using their 39th draft pick to obtain quarterback Geno Smith out of West Virginia University, it is safe to say that the Jets have become the hot mess of the NFL. Now the talk has begun of who will be starting at quarterback week one of this 2013 NFL season; will it be the experienced but proven unreliable Mark Sanchez or the driven yet inconsistent rookie Geno Smith?
These two players could not be any more different. There is little to know overlap in their personal background and lives, their college careers where maintained in two different worlds, and there NFL futures are perceived to follow two completely different trails. However, they have now found themselves competing for one position that could determine either of the careers.
The twenty-six year old Mark Sanchez was born November 11, 1986 in Long Beach, California. His parents, Nick Sr. and Olga Sanchez, divorced when Mark was four years old; he and his brothers, Nick Jr. and Brandon lived with their father, but there mother was still a major role in their life. When Mark was six years old his father moved them to Rancho Santa Margarita, in Orange County. His father later remarried, and continued to raise the boys in a very strict manner, requiring them to do intense amounts of studying and drills to work with quick thinking, self-confidence and discipline. Nick Sr. always said that he wanted to raise his boys to be leaders, not only in sports but in all aspects of life.
