Compare And Contrast Flowers For Algernon Movie And Book
Have you ever wondered what a book would look like if it were a movie? Or vice versa? The decisions the writer makes to assure that the movie or book is good enough for you to read/watch can be challenging, and sometimes scenes get cut. The different decisions writers make based on screenplay and novelists is that for screenplay, they have to make sure the movie will be pleasing to the eye. As for the book they have to make sure it’s easy to read and you can understand it. In Flowers For Algernon, some scenes get cut for different reasons. Like in the book, you didn’t hear about or see the flashbacks Charlie saw, the trip to Chicago, or anything about his mother. For some viewers this may make or break the movie/book.

In this trip Charlie and the doctors who did the surgery go to Chicago and talk about how the surgery went and how smart Charlie is now. This speech backfires when Charlie, who is now smarter than the doctors, read an article about the same experiment and how it went wrong. The experiment in the article worked for awhile, until the person who had the surgery slowly grew more ignorant, which resulted in them dying. Once Charlie read this he became worried about what would happen to him. He announced to the audience about the article and how the doctors didn’t tell him about this, then proceeded to let all of the mice go, except for Algernon. Some people argue that this should’ve been in the book for a number of reasons, one of which is because you get to see a side of Charlie you never got to see in the book. Another reason is because for the reader, Charlie just started getting more and more unintelligent, for example, “I was looking at my old progress reports and it's very funny, but i can’t read what I wrote.” (Pg: 84) This proves that in the book they left out some important details. For some this made the movie

He lost his job, he realized how dumb he was before, and he severed good relationships (not to mention it wore off, possibly leaving him dead too). In the story it said, “Algernon died 2 days ago.” This quote is strongly hinting that Charlie will probably die too, because Charlie and Algernon underwent the same experimental operation to synthetically enhance intelligence by almost 3 times the patient’s original IQ. Obviously, dying doesn’t do much good to a person’s life. Some people could say “it gave Charlie a glimpse of what normal people see!” but what good is a glimpse when you can’t even comprehend what you experienced a few weeks ago?…
