Miss Emily is introduced to us many different times, some being variations in age and activities. Granny Weatherall is introduced
to us when she is on her deathbed, but she does not know it. Both Miss Emily and Granny Weatherall live in the past and do not want to give it up. For Granny Weatherall it may just be her living in the past because she is dying, but for Miss Emily, she lives in the past because she is afraid to move on because the loss of her overprotective father, who scared everyone away from her. The reader could say that both Granny and Emily were jilted being as Granny was jilted by George on her wedding day, and Emily was jilted by anyone who wanted to be with her because of her father scaring them away. Granny and Emily seemed to both die peacefully in their beds. Miss Emily and Granny seem to share quite a few similarities, but a few things differ as well.
Miss Emily had no family to be with her when she passed, only the dead body of her lover, whom she had killed. Granny though was surrounded by family when she had passed and was not ready to fall to the hands of death, even though she said many times that she was ready. Miss Emily was closed out from society, the people pitied her, but they also talked about her behind her back. The reader never really go any perspective from the town’s people for Granny except that they had felt bad when she was jilted on her wedding day. Miss Emily was scared of being left behind and or being left period that she decided to kill Homer Barron, her lover so that he would not leave her. Granny did not have a problem with being left behind because after being left at the altar, she lost all trust for people, so she never really was able to get the trust she gave away back.
