Compare And Contrast Halloween Night
In my opinion, the short film communicates and delivers a far more interesting and experience than the short story. I enjoyed reading the short story, I have to admit, the story was pretty scary, the mood and tone the author used made me feel like I was reading this on a dark and rainy Halloween night. I think the author did a very good job setting the mood of the story in the first couple lines. The first line states “Overnight it has been raining”, rain usually applies a dull, sad and scary mood. The author chooses the mother and the 5-year-old son as the protagonist of the story, this usually shows that they are powerless, and defenseless. In the last paragraph, “she began to shout, to scream, panicking because she wouldn’t be able to carry her son far”, this shows …show more content…
For example, the starting car in the very beginning, it looks like they had a car at first, but was it was unable to start, foreshadowing that it is going to be a long deadly walking trip. In the film, they went down the stairs and ended up in an alleyway with a fire in the middle, the camera angle stopped and pointed at the beer bottles right beside the fire for a second and then back to the woman looking at it. In addition, in part of the film it shows a bruise on the woman's face, and that could explain that maybe after looking at the beer bottles, she was reminded of her drunk husband who assaults her. Also, in the story it states that “she was wearing heavy, loosely-laced shoes and was able to give the dog a wild blow in the side”, so she kicked the dog in the story, but instead in the film she sat there on the ground hopelessly craving not to hurt them. This shows that the director of the film was trying to make it more interesting and entertaining for the views adding all these parts making the viewers wanting to think

In the short story Frank was already at Mary Ann’s house watching television with the boys in the living room while she was in the kitchen. Richard walked through the front door and shot Frank several times in front of the boys (53). In the movie, Frank was shot in the living room after coming to see if Natalie and the boys were ok after a confrontation she just had with Richard. Natalie and the boys were upstairs while Frank went downstairs to keep Richard out of the house. Richard found a way in and shot Frank several times. This was such a graphic scene, just the same as the short story. The way the film portrayed this scene worked very well. It really caused drama and suspense in the film. It was a scary moment that was very disturbing to…

The narrator is increasing the terror and madness by making the screams scarier. The child cries starts as a soft whimpering sound. It happens so much, escalating “howl” loud and fully mature noise; puts in an “inhuman” howl like it was a beast down in the hole with half terror and half triumph. The madness and terror increases so much that the author questions if the howls are from hell by demons.…

These include reprimanding a child with non-verbal and verbal cues to guide them through life. In the second paragraph, the poet talks of hearing voices of the murdered children. One can interpret this along with ghosts and the long time implications of long-term decision. The woman can forget the actions, but in some way, they will come back to haunt the individual. In this same paragraph, one finds references to the rites of passage that a child undergoes. They include love, relationships, marriage, and heartache. Again the author uses expressions of regret to show that a woman who aborts a child can expect to miss the rites of passage that a child goes through when transiting from childhood to adulthood. It is every mother’s dream to see a son or daughter walk down the church aisle with a loved one to signify the first step in starting a family and bringing forth another generation into the world. The tumults, aches and cries that the poet describes show that life is worth it. Women should not look at child rearing as a burden, but a duty to prepare a young one for the rigors of…

When sitting down to watch a film one of the first elements a viewer should use to analyze a movie is its narrative structure. The film should be structured to help the viewer to understand the message contained within and give meaning throughout. However you need to keep in mind that narrative structure only applies to the way in which a story I told not the story itself. This means that the narrative structure is the chronological stages or steps that progress from one to the other throughout the story. There are two types of narrative structures: linear and non-linear. The linear structure tells the story of a film in chronological order, while the non-linear structure tells the story in a non chronological order usually…

This movie is very eye opening. I vaguely recall reading about this event in high school. I feel like the film did a great job at humanizing the little girls and their families. Instead of just thinking about the tragedy in a kind of abstract way, it allows you to relate to what happened in a much more visceral way.…
