Compare And Contrast I Has By Walt Whitman
“I Has” is a free verse poem written by Walt Whitman. “LABAA” was written by Langston Hughes. Walt Whitman wa born in 1819 and died in 1892. Both writers have kind of a similar writing style. Langston grew up reading some of Walt Whitman’s poems, so he kind of got his writing style from Whitman. Both of the poems have very good vocabulary. Langston’s poem is longer, but Whitman’s is a free verse poem. Free verse’s are easier because you don’t have to write about one specific topic, and are able to write about multiple subjects.
“I Has” is about a group of workers that all have different types of jobs and all have a joy or passion for what they do, and they also sing while they’re working. Singing I guess is a way to concentrate and to stay

Most people expect that all poetry should be close to the same thing if we were to have the same theme, but in fact, although there are many similarities, there can also be many differences too. Upon comparison of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S Eliot and Afternoons and Coffee Spoons by Crash Test Dummies we see just this. These two poems share similarities in theme, and reference to time but do not have similar tones.…

Edgar Allen Poe’s use of the first person narrative in The Tell-tale Heart is much more effective than Nathaniel Hawthorne’s use of the third person in Young Goodman Brown because the use of the first person in Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart allows the reader to feel the narrator’s panic while the third person narrator in Young Goodman Brown only tells the story and the reader does not feel the main character’s feelings. By telling the story of the Tell Tale Heart in the first person, Poe allows his readers to see the build up of the main characters insanity with the use of language and crazy and rambling dialogue. On the other hand, Hawthorne’s use of the third person simply narrates the story and tells of Brown’s feelings rather than having the reader identify with Brown.…

The story of Sister Flowers by Maya Angelou and Fish Cheeks by Amy Tan gives us two different examples of how two young ladies manage to overcome embarrassment and cultural differences. Whitman's and Hughes poems are in free verse and have no rhyme scheme. The reason behind this is that the free verse is emphasizing freedom and equality. Whitman is talking about how america has freedom and this is what lets everyone contribute to what makes america so great. While Hughes says the african americans currently are not free. America promosies all with freedom but because of the color of some people's skin they are denied that freedom. However he will go against the restraints and hopes soon all will have the freedom and the right to be an american. Another thing is that Whitman uses long lines but each talks about the simple job each person contributes to america. However hughes uses short lines and his story expresses a complex meaning. This shows that he changed Whitman's poem to express the idea that even if a man looks differnt, should he be denied the rights of others. The short lines are also better because of the fact they help to emphasize the importance of each word because there is only a few words he can use to emphasize the importance and the message of his poem. It emphasizes the importance a lot better than Whitman's because of the fact it is not sugarcoated. The sugarcoating on Whitman's makes it more happy connotation but harder to understand the message. This makes it easier to see Hughes ambition and hopes of being treated like an…
