Compare And Contrast The Age Of Exploration And New France
During the Age Of Exploration, France was one of the many superpowers in Europe. Other countries like England, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Sweden were all looking for new lands, therefore building Wealth, and riches also building empires to gain power. In 1524 Giovanni DA Verrazzano led the first French Expedition to America. Then he was followed by Jacques Cartier, who explored the coast from the Cape Fear River to Nova Scotia. All of the voyages consequently led to the French colonization of the Americas.

St. Lawrence River and The Great Lakes were lands discovered by France and named "New France". New France was divided among 5 colonies, Canada, Acadia, Hudson Bay, Newfoundland, and Louisiana. Each one of them had their own administration

    After Columbus mistakenly discovered the Americas in 1492, European countries were soon setting out to establish themselves in this new world. Spain was first to establish itself in the new world, using their powerful military and their navy. The new colonies were completely dictated by the king of Spain, such one of his policies allowing colonists to use the native tribes for forced labor. France was the second major power to establish itself. Their main focus was fur trapping and fur trading. The French quickly learned to work with the Native Americans. The few French settlers, who did come to America, were focused on fur trapping and trading. Because of this, most French settlements were either military forts or trading posts. England was the last major European country to come to the Americas. Its first successful colony was Jamestown in 1607. England practiced granting charters to companies or individual wealthy proprietors to establish its new colonies. This caused the English colonies to vary greatly. The colonies in the Chesapeake Bay area focused more material profit and individualism, while colonies in the Massachusetts Bay are focused on religion and communalism.…

    France was a late player in the settling game of the New World. During the 1500s it was ravaged by wars and internal conflict, most of these were caused from the Roman Catholics at odds with the Protestant Huguenots. Also, once the colonies were created settlers did not stay, many either came home or never trekked out into the wild. There were very few reasons to travel to the colonies for the French. This is because the colonial government was under direct rule of the crown. The one gain that could be obtained by immigrating to the colonies was religious freedom. However, France would not allow the passage of the prosecuted Huguenots. The main trade was Canada’s fur; not the most profitable. Although fur was very popular in America, and had great potential to succeed. The lack of settlers and the large land area controlled by the French could not be efficiently occupied or fortified.
