Humans have migrated to North America for better cultivation of crops and repopulation. It has been theorized that people have crossed to North America on a Land Bridge, which had emerged linking Asia and North America across into what is known today as the Bering Sea. Groups of people that have traveled from the bridge have spreaded to North, Central and South America, where tons of tribes have emerged. Many tribes have noticed that North America soil was better for crops, such as the Cherokee, Choctaw and Iroquois Indians, where they have grown corn, beans, and squash.

Diseases such as smallpox, yellow fever, and malaria has caused an immense decline of the American Indian populations. Due to the introduction of the “Old World” to the “New World, the Natives were not physically ready for what was to come. The Natives had no immunities in their systems from the diseases. An estimate of 90% of Indians have died, mostly due to disease.
2.6 What was the Columbian exchange?
The Columbian Exchange is the period of trade between the New and Old Worlds after Columbus’s voyage in 1492. Trading plants, animals, diseases, and technological advances. Things that were not expected during this trade was cultural collisions and the diseases that would affect both Worlds. The belief of animism between the Indians and the Christian Europeans were surely to cause some misunderstandings, however they did grow out and move forward, but did not cause the same damages the diseases did to both ends.
