The Columbian Exchange was a complex and impactful movement of diseases , like smallpox, influenza, and other silent killers, and people across the Atlantic. This exchange took place from 1430-1600. The Columbian Exchange also included foods of the Western Hemisphere , like maize, pirates,manioc, and sweet potatoes. Manufactured goods like mirrors, books, dishes, and playing cards were also exchanged. The Columbian Exchange also influenced population growth in other continents.

In fifteenth-century Virginia social mobility ended for Africans. Their social mobility ended due to the collapse of the tobacco boom and the increasing political power of the Gentry. Due to the collapse of tobacco Nicholas Spencer, a Virginia planter-politician declaring, “blacks can make it cheaper than whites.” He declared this because he felt that since tobacco prices are at an all-time low, production should be cheaper.

New France was founded in the 1530’s by Jacques Cartier. He traveled up the St. Lawrence River and claimed it for France. For three-quarters of a century the St.Lawrence was claimed for France until 1608 when Samuel de Champlain returned and founded it for a Quebec. He claim turned New France into an expansive center of fur trading and missionary work. In 1662, King Louis XIV turned New France into a royal colony and supported the migration of indentured servants.
