The Columbian Exchange: Old World Came In Contact With The New World

The Columbian Exchange was a time when the Old World came in contact with the New World. It is called the Columbian Exchange because Christopher Columbus came to the Americas and traded with the people there which he called Indians. They traded many different things, even disease. After a while, the Indians realized they would be conquered, and that’s what happened. The Europeans would be outnumbered 10 to 1, but the Europeans would still win. This is because of disease and new technology. Europeans had guns and horses, nothing the Natives had ever seen before. Also, the European immune system was much stronger, and when the Europeans gave disease, it killed almost all of the Indians. Both of these combined easily let the Europeans to conquer them. In my paper, I will be talking about the goods traded between the two, the diseases they traded, and the religion that they practiced.
The Indians taught the Europeans about corn, potatoes, cassava, tobacco, vanilla, and more. Potatoes and corn were very important, as it helped to feed Europe people, they had no famines over these crops. The Europeans taught the Indians about new technology and animals such as horses, rice, wheat, barley, and more. No conflicts came over the goods, at first. In the beginning, it was a nice trade. Later, the Europeans were staying too long on the Natives land. The Natives realized that they were here to conquer lands. Then trading stopped and war
