He resolutely adhered to a campaign whose only method would be peaceful protest or satyagraha as it was called by him. This involved Gandhi and his followers standing up to their oppressors even when threatened with violence or pain. The most famous of these instances being Gandhi’s march to the sea where he would gather his own salt. This represented protest against the British because the British had a monopoly on salt, so Gandhi’s salt march represented subverting the British Empire’s power. Another instance of peaceful protest was when Gandhi refused to eat until internal divisions and violence between members of the Quit India Movement stopped. He became emaciated and weakened, yet he remained resolute in his ultimatum and refused any sustenance until the fighting stopped. And eventually the fighting did stop.
