Compare and contrast Victor Frankenstein and his creature
In Mary Shelly’s “Frankenstein”, Victor Frankenstein had an obsession with life and death. Victor study hard to learn as much as he could about science. Through his scientific knowledge he decided to bring a body he puts together to life. After Victor’s creation is brought to life he doesn’t like what he sees considering his creation to be a monster and runs away from him. This is the biggest mistake Victor commits in the story.

He begins studying at Ingolsadt at the age seventeen after his mother’s death. He deeply emerges his self in his studies while he was in school learning every thing there is to know. With the knowledge he gains he is able to construct his creation. Victor also learns to speak Oriental language as well. Similar to his creator the monster desires knowledge.
The monster explains to Victor how he learns through his senses. The monster learns to communicate through language by listening too two young kids teach Safie. He also teaches his self to read, this gave him a better perspective of the world. He also read some of Victor’s journal entries and find out how he really feels about him. By learning all this new knowledge he realize that he is an outcast is society.
Victor was a selfish person and only thought about what was good for him. In the novel there where a few instances where this happened. For example, early in the novel when he went off to school and neglected his family to tell them how he was doing because he was to focus on his studies. He knew that it was not her who killed him, but he was too afraid to tell everyone that he had created a monster.
Victor shows his selfishness throughout the novel. Although the Monster committed murder he was kind hearted. When the Monster figured out that the people he was stealing food from was poor he stopped. He also began finding food and fire wood to help the family. The Monster praises Agatha and Felix, He looks up to them and there knowledge. He converses with De Lacey and tells him that he has no intent on harming any one and wanted to do well in the world. Another instance of the Monster kind heart was when he saved the little girl from drowning.
Another difference between Victor and the monster is there family life. Victor was shown love by his parents as a child. He mentioned in the novel how kind his parents was and he that experienced a happy childhood. He was very grateful for the way his parents raised him. Before his mother dies she showed him a mother’s love. He mentions in the novel that his mother was a brave, compassionate, and kind woman.
