Question: compare Canada’s reaction to Communism during the Cold War to China’s reaction to Western Countries during the Cold War.

After WWII’s ending, there is no any big fighting in the future. But some major powers still are greedy, so that’s the Cold War (1945-1991) coming. The Soviet Union and the Western Countries began to see other as Enemies. So the world was divided into Communist and Capitalist Countries. USSR, Eastern Europe and China kept the government system as Communism, and USA, Western Countries decided to keep Capitalism. The Cold War was a conflict between these two ideas, Communism and Capitalist Democracy.

At that time, every mainly countries have the nuclear weapons which have the power can destroy the whole world, so the countries of each sides were be same afraid of each other. They just make many smaller political and military conflicts between each other, so sent spies for getting information and make protection for making sure their own safety. In 1949, NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is made up by many Western countries for protection the countries if Soviet Union attacked them. They are US, Canada, Britain, France, Italy, Belgium, and some small European Countries. After that, Canada also took part in the Korea War for helping US. Because of the problem between North Korea and South Korea, communism countries----China and Soviets were fighting with capitalism countries----UN, US and Canada. US didn’t want South Korea become as same as North, after WWII, they took the South Korea from Japan, of course they didn’t want to lose land. Then NORAD was coming. Because of ICBM, USA and China were worried about that, so they agreed to create to NORAD (North American Aerospace Defence Command) and built many DEW (Distance Early Warning) systems over the Arctic. Because capitalism is so arduous to achieve China make up a new government system called Socialism which is between Capitalism and Communism, Chinese think we can reach Communism after Socialism. After PRC (the People’s Republic of China) was establish in 1949, China defeated the Kuomintang and then established diplomatic relations with Soviet, Korea and other small countries, also get the admit of many countries during the Cold War. The reason of why China decided to join in Soviet for communism is Great Harmony. That’s an ideal of perfect society, very similar to communism. Although Chinese know that way will be so hard to improve, we still decided to make a society with china’s own characteristics. Saving Korea, it is important for making the best relationship between China and Korea. After that, China wants to improve our development around business, economy and technology. For economy, China makes the first “Five Years” (I didn’t know what is the correct word for this plan, this one was translated be myself) plan in 1953. For business, China cannot contact with western countries during Cold War, but China sent Zhou Enlai to visit India for making relation. Also for protecting ourselves, we must produce the nuclear weapon as soon as possible. At the end, we invent the nuclear weapons and artificial satellites successful.
