1:1 The whole ethos behind a child centred model of Assessment and planning is that it is totally person centred and focuses solely on that individual child. It focuses on their specific needs and what extra multiagency support is required to enhance and assist them. It also encourages that each child has their own voice and choice, and enables them to be individuals and have self expression. The children are encouraged and supported to be in control of their own decisions and self explore arid use their own initiative and imagination, therefore hopefully gaining confidence and a sense of independance. All of the above will hopefully reflect positively in their future lives and experiences.

child. Therefore distinguishing the differences between a typically developed child or young person.
With the information gained you can then plan activities and tasks to assist in that child's developmental weak areas.
This can then be revisited over a period of time and recorded to see a pattern of improvement or areas needing further or additional support. With a verbal more able child it's is good practice to ask them what the have difficulty with and what areas they think they can improve on giving them a sense of control of their own lives. Another way of establishing a child's needs is by linking in with parents and other professionals involved with the child's care. This is a good method and will enable continuity and hopefully by everyone working together there will be no areas of identified needs missed. Support workers and Carers should liaise with one and other to look at the recordings from observations . This can then be another means for identifying areas in which a child has additional needs. This can then be recorded and actioned
accordingly.
1:3 It is important to have a multi agency approach when assessing the needs of children and young people to inform planning. If all agencies , carers and family work together for the best interest of the child this can only impact positively with the best possible outcomes.
In my work setting we work closely with our speech and language specialist. She will come into the setting and assist in any areas in which we may be struggling. For example she has developed a pecs system for the children's snack time. She will observe this activity on a regular basis and will tell us of when the boys need to advance or implement any ideas if the boys are finding it difficult in any areas.
Through this partnership approach ,we as staff are able to therefore gain first hand information and knowledge from a specialist in that field. This is very beneficial for us as staff and can be used to when assessing the children's future needs. It also instils confidence in ourselves that we as staff are working correctly and using a person centred individual approach to each child.
It is important to work closely with all external agencies and to maintain a multidisciplinary approach. This enables continuity of care and hopefully exhausts and addresses all areas of a child's needs.
Professionals that we may work closely with include –
Doctors
Dentists Social Workers Behavioural Specialists Foster Carers
SEN LSA , Teachers
Criminal Justice System
Dietician
Speech and Language Nurses
Occupational Therapists.
All collaboration with these professionals is continual and a vital part of our work as child care workers in my work setting. The children's continued development and 5 assessment of their additional needs is always our priority and we strive to reach this given goal.
1:4 Effective participation will be better achieved if they correct environment is provided. This would be one in which the child feels most at ease and relaxed. This is particularly important for our children as being on the autistic spectrum they like familiarity and do not often cope with change or certain environments. Such as noisy or crowded . These unfamiliarities or stressful places could cause anxiety or ; distraction and therefore losing their engagement or participation levels. It is important to make the area fun with plenty of play tools remembering that it is parson centred and one child's like may be another child's dislike. It is good to remember that when a child is happy and playing they are more likely to learn and naturally be r themselves.
Other effective methods of ensuring participation and engagement could be –
The use of Pictures Contributions through Play
Children and Young People given personal responsibility to set ground rules . Written Contributions . Video or Audio Contributions.
The Children Act 2004 stipulates to ensure that when considering services that a child's wishes and feelings are taken into account.
