Winston Churchill said, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm” (Top). Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill, and Franklin D Roosevelt where all leaders during WWII. These leaders were strong leaders and had some big challenges. Not all of them we good guys or heroes but there we two that were good during their time in office. Winston Churchill was born on November 30,1874.. His mother went into labor at her parent-in-laws and the local doctor delivered him safely. Winston was born in a family that was famous in Britain (Hamilton 11). Winston’s parents were Lord Randolph Churchill and Jenni Jerome.. Jenni’s mother took her and her sister to Europe
when she was thirteen. Where she went to a ball and met Lord Randolph Churchill and became engaged three days later(12). They met in 1873. They got married in Paris on April 15,1874(13). Winston went to boarding school when he was seven.
He lived there all the time, he didn't enjoy it. His behavior was difficult, and they beat him for it. Winston got his revenge by kicking the principal’s favorite hat that was straw into pieces(14). Winston's father died on January 24,1895.Winston was twenty-one at the time (20). Winston also started his military career at age twenty -one (23).
Churchill proposed to Clementine in garden in August of 1908. Clementine was twenty- two and Churchill was thirty -three when they got married in September of 1908(36). Their first child was Diana born in 1909.Churchill was appointed in command of Britain's navy in October of 1911. Britain needed a mighty navy(37).
Churchill was taken prisoner when doing a news report on the war in South Africa. The Boers had taken him. Boers are descendants of the dutch. They settled in South Africa (Boer). He escaped and wrote a book called “London to Ladysmith”(Winston). When some countries announced war, Churchill feared he would be in the war. Churchill was correct. On August 4, 1914. Winston took part in deciding Ireland's future. Many people wanted Ireland to be separated from Britain. There had been terrorist acts and the IRA IRISH republic angry with Britain's army(48). In 1938, the prime minister of Britain gave a chunk of Czechoslovakia to Germany. Churchill did not like the promise of peace. Hitler invaded Poland and broke the promise. Prime minister was out and Churchill took his job, in May, 1940 (Winston).
Churchill predicted that WWII would be long and hard. France got captured by Nazis in 1940.Germany planes did three months of raid in Britain. Churchill tried to keep spirits high he even convinced Franklin D Roosevelt to give war supplies. In 1951, Churchill got re-elected as prime minister. In 1953, the Queen made Churchill the order of the garter. He retired in 1955 but died in 1965(Winston).
Churchill was not the only leader during WWII there was Stalin also and Franklin Roosevelt. Stalin was born on December 18, 1878 but later changed his birth date to December 21, 1879. He also changed his name to Stalin which means man of steel in Russian(Joseph). Joseph Stalin was originally named Joseph Djvgashvili. Joseph Stalin was his parents third boy, but the other two died at an early age(Mccollum 16).
Stalin was poor when he was little. Stalin’s dad hurt him and his mom because Stalin's dad was an alcoholic, Stalin tried to protect him mom from a beating by throwing and knife at his dad but missed and ran for his life(17). Joseph had scars on his face from smallpox when he was young( Joseph). Stalin was called soso when little. Joseph made good grades in school and never missed a mass but led a gang of boys(19). Stalin’s dad’s job ran out of business and took a job in a shoe factory. Joseph’s dad took Stalin to work there but the mom got him back with family, the priest, and the teachers.But later returned when he was 15 to become a priest(20).
Stalin married his first wife and had a son who died in WWII by getting captured by Germans. After his first wife, died he got married again and had a boy and a girl. His second wife committed suicide in her 30’s. Joseph became in power after Vladimir Lenin Died. Stalin was the dictator of the USSR( Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). Joseph killed enemies or put them in work camps( Stalin).
Joseph killed farmers who refused to cooperate with orders. Stalin ruled with totalitarian in order to get rid of anyone who would oppose him. Joseph’s five-year plans were completed and one year early. The five-year plan was focused on the government taking over farms. A lot of farms opposed to giving up their farms and were killed (Stalin). Factories were four times faster. Tanks, tractors, and airplane rolled off assembly lines. Almost twelve million laborers had been given a job (McCollum).
The USSR gave admission for Korea to invade the U.S. but it created the Korean war. Stalin avoided America’s and Britain's warning. Joseph wanted a blockade on Berlin. In the hope of getting control of the city. But the allies did a huge Airlift giving the city supplies and Stalin gave up. He did not care about his age and still ruled with horror, killing,/ and work camps(Stalin).
Some say Stalin was the one who killed twenty million people while he ruled by horror. Stalin experienced a stroke and died on March 5,1953. Stalin left a massive amount of deaths as he turned Russia into a superpower. He died after they uncovered someone trying to assassinate him(Stalin)
Franklin D Roosevelt was born on January 30,1882.
Franklin Attended law at Columbia University. Theodore Roosevelt is the fifth cousin of Franklin D Roosevelt (Bausum 141).Franklin married his wife at twenty and she was eighteen. They got married in 1905. Eleanor and Franklin were cousins.Eleanor was given off by her uncle Theodore Roosevelt (142). Wilson made Franklin Assistant secretary of the Navy (Franklin). Franklin D Roosevelt met Huge challenges. Franklin was known for the “Hundred Day”. Franklin helped out banks in his first hundred days in office and help people get jobs and signed “The New Deal it was a bill (FDR). Franklin recovered the U.S after the Great depression

Franklin was hit with illness in 1921 and went from active to can not walk. His wife encouraged him to regain use of his legs but could only stand on leg braces (142). In 1940, people approved his third presidential campaign. He said he would not go to war unless there was an attack (143).
Roosevelt wanted to rethink the isolation policy. Germany had taken control of France at the end of June,1940. Franklin got congress to say yes to help out Britain more (Franklin). Roosevelt was serious during WWII (144). Franklin roosevelt declared war on Japan on December 8,1941, the day after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor (Franklin). A couple months later Roosevelt had a stroke while someone was doing a portrait of him. He never talked again and past way later that day (145). Franklin died on April 12, 1945. Harry S, Truman took over for Roosevelt ( Franklin). The country was driven into grief after Roosevelt past. He helped people through the toughest times(145). Franklin Roosevelt was the longest president in office(141).
Months after Roosevelt past WWII ended. The challenge became normal for the leaders ahead. Roosevelt was the fourth president to get a monument in Washington D.C( 145). All these men were leaders of countries in WWII. Churchill and Roosevelt were great leaders and will be remember that way. Stalin was a horrible leader and reigned with terror and will be remember that way. The point is that they will be remember good or bad. like Winston Churchill said, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm”(Top).
