Something Amazing

The films, Life oh Pi and Big Fish have imaginary stories that are told through the lives of Pi Patel, and Edward Bloom. Pi Patel and Edward Bloom’s stories are very different, but at the end of both films the Japanese officials started to believe Pi. Similar to how Will Bloom, Edward’s son starts to believe the stories his father has been telling him. In each film the central theme is that the Japanese Officials and Will Bloom didn’t believe what they were hearing.
In Life of Pi, something amazing happens to Pi. Pi’s life is saved while he survived with a tiger named Richard Parker. Pi is interviewed by two Japanese officials. The Japanese officials

    Although Pi defines himself as an unpredictable narrator through the final events in the story, Pi gives hints of false information throughout the book. As a reader, you hang on to his words because he is the one taking you through the account of his epic journey. Pi in the final scene of the story after his journey across the Pacific, tells the Japanese Oceanic Authorities contradicting stories. “Pi: So, you didn`t like my story? Mr.Okamoto: No, we liked it very much. Didn’t we , Atsuro? We will remember it for a long, long time. Mr.Chiba: We will.     The film Life of Pi explores the concept that discoveries allow man to access to a higher plane of spiritual and self-understanding. Through Pi’s strong connection with his multi-religious and cultural background, Ang Lee demonstrates his struggle between pragmatism and faith when he is stranded at the Pacific. For instance, Pi is enforced to disobey a tenet of his Hindu faith and hammer the dorado to death so that his predatory companion has something to sustain on. Yet his childhood sincerity that animals have souls and his exceptional sympathy for them bring about a sense of remorse .The saturated green colour and the accompanying diegetic sound portrays fish’s vicious slaughter and his pained expression having to disregard his culture - the Indian vegetarianism. To overcome this trauma, Pi associates the sacrifice of the fish as a mean of saviour using the symbolism of the legends about the Vishnu god in Hinduism “Thank you Vishnu for coming in the form of a fish and saving our lives”. Evidently, Pi’s childhood exploration of divinity alters when he finds himself in the middle of the ocean. Ingenuity and tolerance lies beneath his attempt to balance the reality and faith rather than primarily favour one side or the other .This change indicates that he becomes increasingly aware of his capability from co-existing with Richard Parker, facing starvation and near extinction. Insightfully, the film proposes that religion or reality is not entirely contrasting through his successful manipulation of the twos to stay consistently…

    1. The novel Life of Pie written by, Yann Martel’s tells the story of a young man named Pi, to be specific sixteen years old, which grows up in the south indian city of Pondiocherry. Pi was raised by a wealthy family, father being Santos Patel, and mother being Gita Patel, which owned a zoo, and that is where the Tiger(Richard Parker) comes in play. The next aspect of the story goes as follows: since all facet of government power was taken by Indira Ghandi in India, and Pi father did not want to be involved in politics, so they closed the zoo and decided to go to Canada, as a family. Soon after the family decided to leave to Canada, a storm shockingly happens, and this is where the story elevates to the next level. As the family as a hole died Pi and couple of animals from the zoo were alive with pi, on a life boat. As the story develops Pi survives a shipwreck for 227 days, then at a young age was left alone ,on a life boat with a male tiger named Richard Parker. In order to live, this young man noticed that Pi must train the tiger, and to my surprise that is exactly what Pi did. On the journey to going to land, Pi experiences many obstacles in the journey to survival, but ends up vanquishing and ends at last at the beach of Mexico safely.…

However, their hope and determination pull through and overcome this heart- wrenching event. For Pi, from Life of Pi, there are numerous deaths that have a huge toll on him. Pi’s whole family dies when the boat they are travelling on sinks. This ball becomes important to Chuck because it is the only object he has contact with for four years while on the island. He talks to Wilson as if he was a person and when he loses Wilson, he becomes wounded. This is a hard time for Chuck because all he had that was keeping him sane leaves. Nevertheless Chuck perseveres through the hardships and keeps moving forward with hope and determination. Despite the battle of deaths these characters Pi and Chuck Noland were presented, they prove that with hope and determination to live it is possible to overcome their adversity if death, and any other difficulty that arose.…
