This essay is going to be about the story “The Bluest Eye” & the movie “The Color Purple”. In the story “The Bluest Eye” was mostly about A girl name Pecola Breedlove. Pecola was the daughter of Mrs. Pauline Breedlove, and Cholly Breedlove, also the sister of Sammy her 14 year old brother who ran away. In The Movie it was about the main character, Ms. Celie, she was Common law wife of Albert. They had 2 kids, named (Olivia & Adam). Introducing the other characters in The Color Purple… Shug Avery, A Juke Joint Singer. Harpo, Albert’s eldest son who’s in love with Sofia. Sofia, A fiercely and Independent woman, who befriends Celie and marries Harpo. Olivia and Adam, Alphonso and Celie’s Children. The Bluest Eye...Claudia, Who’s narrating parts of the story. Cholly, Pecola’s Father who’s impulsive and very abusive. Pauline, Pecola’s Mother who’s thinks she’s ugly, which makes her lonely and cold. Frieda, Claudia’s sister who shares her stubbornness and independence. Mrs. MacTear, Claudia Mother who’s over protective of her kids. Mr. MacTear, their Dad who’s a hard worker. He did dirt and was obsessed with Celie friend Shug. Albert sent her kids away to Africa. Celie’s sister Nettie later on went back to Africa and found out that her kids were sent there. Mr and Mrs. Breedlove had a rough relationship as well. Cholly had issues with his father. He used to drink a lot and took his anger out on Pauline or Pecola. Cholly represents a negative form of freedom. Pauline experiences a more subtle form of humiliation than cholly does. Her existence is as haunted and delusional as her daughter.
