On 9 July 1943, the Allied Forces initiated the invasion of Sicily, or “Operation Husky”. This invasion was the largest amphibious operation conducted during World War II and utilized over 2,590 vessels and involved approximately a half million soldiers, sailors, and airmen. While this invasion was a victory for the Allies and provided them with a launch pad for its invasion of Italy, senior leaders made many mistakes in their planning, execution, decision making, and coordination. As a result, analysis of this operation provides excellent lessons learned that are still relevant today for future joint commanders and staff. Lastly, of the six joint functions integrated into joint or combined operations, this paper focuses on evaluating, at the…

Every day, hundreds of airmen, soldiers, and sailors are exposed to hazardous areas in combat zones. Throughout decades, thousands of service members have served their time in the military. Currently, there is an estimate of 1.3 million men and women serving active duty in the United States military (Gould, 2017). And of those millions, approximately 11,000+ service members within the American military are deployed in combat zones (Sisk, 2017). After a long and rigorous deployment, many troops return, only to begin another unsettled fight in their own home.…
The Civil Air Patrol was founded at a time of national crisis, mobilizing civilian volunteers to defend the nation as in no time since the American Revolution. CAP today flies the world’s largest fleet of modern Cessna aircraft that is desirable for search operations. During Pearl Harbor, an estimated 40,000 male and female pilots volunteered their time and aircraft to defend the United States, reporting possible enemy submarines in the area and rescuing survivors from the water, resulting in Civil Air Patrol pilots being the first in the country to receive Air Medals for their service. CAP has changed dramatically from the days of WWII. It is now the non-profit auxiliary of the United States Air Force, flying more than 85 percent of all federal inland search-and-rescue missions, saving nearly 100 people each year.…
" On average 4 to 5 helicopters respond to calls each day"( helicopter rescues increasing on Everest 21) , "each helicopter is 2 million dollars each" ( helicopters rescues increasing on Everest 21). In my opinion people shouldn’t receive rescuer services because it does put rescuers at risk for getting serious injury or even death. I also think people that put themselves at risk do not have the right to receive to rescue services.…
No longer associated with Reconstruction, it is a useful way to prevent the U.S. armed forces from directing their efforts against U.S. dissident groups. In October of 2008, the ACLU filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act with the Departments of Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security, demanding an explanation for the Army 's decision to station an active-duty military unit inside the United States. The program, entitled the Chemical, Biological, Radiological/Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) Consequence Management Response Force, or CCMRF, were stationed for one year at Fort Stewart, Ga., with the expectation that another active-duty brigade will then take over, and that the deployment will be permanent. The first unit to be deployed will be the 3rd Infantry Division 's 1st BCT, or "First Raiders", which spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq. The unit 's explicit mission will be to provide support for civilian law-enforcement branches like local police and rescue personnel: it may be called upon in situations involving civil unrest, crowd control, or catastrophes like chemical, biological, or nuclear attack, and it will be trained in skills like search and rescue and crowd control. This is a direct violation of Posse Comitatus. The deployment of an active unit within the U.S. is also troubling given recent evidence of the Department of Defense 's involvement…
