Comparing The Five Pillars Of Islam

The five pillars of Islam are faith, prayer, fasting, a pilgrimage to Mecca, and being charitable to the poor. These five pillars are the five religious duties expected of every Muslim (Kidsofcourage, 2008). The Islamic faith still has to follow these five pillars today. Within a few decades of Muhammad’s death – the founder of Islam – the five pillars of Islam started. Someone may think that every religion are completely different and practice different things, but Christianity and the Islamic faith are somewhat similar to each other. Prayer, declaration of faith, and pilgrimage are three of the five pillars of Islam that are found not only in the Islamic faith, but the Christian faith as well. When someone is in a tough spot at their life, the best thing to do is pray. In both the Islamic and the Christian faith, prayer is practiced in the religions. In the Islamic faith, the Muslims have to pray five times a day. When they pray, they have to be facing towards to holy city of Mecca, so they pray in public (Kidsofcourage, 2008). This is very different but similar to the Christian faith. In the Christian faith, the Christians do not pray in public like the Muslims do. The Christians preferably pray at home. There are some differences between the two when it comes to believing in only one god and their declaration of faith. While the Christians believe in one god, they also believe that god had a son, Jesus. The Islamic faith does not believe that god had a son, Jesus. The Muslims call their declaration of faith, “Shahada” (“The Five Pillars of Islam” 2015). Instead of believing that god has a son, Jesus, the Muslims believe that Muhammad is gods messenger (“The Five Pillars of Islam” 2015).
