Comparing The Light Side And The Dark Side Of The Force

The Force is a mystery. It is what gives a Jedi his power, and an energy field created by all living things. The force is the name used by both the Sith and Jedi orders for something in the universe, a power they tap into or act on behalf of. There are two sides to the force: The Light side and The Dark side. The Light side was aligned with calmness and used by the Jedi and was used for knowledge and defense. The God we discuss in class has some similarities to the Force’s light side. The Jedis use light when they need knowledge or when they are fighting and need to defend themselves. God is used as assistance when things aren't going too well. He doesn’t necessarily defend people, but he does look out for them, which can fall under the category
of defense. In the article “How Star Wars Answers our biggest religious questions,” a quote that can relate is For the Force, we can read “transcendence” in general — that which goes beyond the material world — and more specifically, God. May the Force be with you” parallels the Christian greeting of “May the Lord be with you.” The force is important and powerful in their society just like God is in ours.
The light side of the force is always there for the Jedis, just like God is here for us to love and protect us. On the other hand, the dark side is used by the Sith was far more demanding and had darker emotions such as fear and anger. The dark side would resemble the evil in our world today. Yoda said that the Dark Side of the Force is not stronger than the Light Side of the Force, but that it was a lot quicker, easier, more tempting to use. Evilness in the world has a lot of similarity to this side of the force because just like the darkness, it is so much easier to be mean to people and spark fears and anger into others. When someone is doing something to your dislike, it is very tempting to use evilness to satisfy yourself, but it's not at all tempting to nicely ask them to stop or attempt to stop them. In the same sense, using the dark force is more tempting to use then the light side because it is more effective than the light. The Siths grew up around the darker side of the force so its easier to use it, just like people who grow up in rough neighborhoods are more likely to be rough and evil because it is all they
know. The force has good sides and bad sides, but untimely it is useful in the galaxy. The galaxy is being taken over and they need to use their powers to save it, something that people without powers couldn’t do. The dark force is bad, but can be powerful if it combines and works with the light side.
