Comparing Two Interview Techniques
While interviewing I felt that I was being super aware when the client and I were talking. I noticed in the first interview that the client was fiddling with his fingers when talking to me. I feel that the client was doing this because they were talking about their feelings for the first time. Like I said earlier the client doesn't do this normally so they felt a little uncomfortable because this was something new for them. When it came to the second interview the client was leaning back in their chair and was way more relaxed when we were in the interview. I feel this was because they were more comfortable the second time because they knew what was coming.
There really weren't any issues that were brought up with in both of the interviews

It was a little different than the first one though. The atmosphere was not as great on the outside of the room we were in but the inside of the rooms atmosphere was way better than the first one. When it came to the tone though I would say the tone was better in this interview. This was because we started off laughing but also both the client and myself knew what to expect. When it came to the techniques I used I felt that I did not show the ones from week seven to nine. This was just because the client never really gave me anything that I was able to truly use those techniques. Although I didn’t get to use those techniques I do think that I showed that I could grasp the techniques from other weeks. In this interview though I didn't ask as many questions as the first interview this was because the client went into depth so much when answering the questions I asked. I believe the client did this because he was so comfortable when in the session. What we talked about was mainly what had happened since the last time we talked and if there was anything new that was up and coming that he was excited or nervous about. Then my closing was once again rocky in this session but I believe I mad up for it for the way I thanked the client for doing these interviews with

Interviewing clients can seem like a daunting task if the provider is unsure of the own skills. Adhering to the three stage of interviewing can ease the burden felt by both the provider and client. Stage 1 is exploration, this stage is meant to help clients identify their experiences and issues (Evans, Hearn, & Uhlemann, 2011, Chapter 1: Attending Behavior. p. 8). Reflective listening, questions, and behavior allow clients to feel heard and validated. Body language and verbal communication allow for open ended questions and reflective answers. This stage sets the tone for positive engagement between client and provider.…

The client was a resident of the Davis Child Shelter, her name was Resident S. The interview happened 8/7/15. Most of the residents went outside to play some basketball and football in the afternoon, and she was seeing at the steps alone, and looked distressed. I walked over to her, to see what was wrong. There was no previous interview, and before approaching Resident S, I was not sure about the readiness if she was willing to talk to me. I hoped that the last couple of weeks of building rapport would help, but she did open up to me. At the start of the interview, Resident S was withdrawn and mad/sad that something happened. I was a little nervous walking to her, but I knew she would not get mad at me for it. It could be possible that because it was outside, and away from ear-shot of anyone, she would open up to me more than if I was in the Shelter. As for my appearance, I normally wear “regular” clothes at the Shelter. I believe that helps me build rapport with the residents at the Shelter by putting me on an equal level.…

I felt as though I improved slightly since the first interview using the COPM. As an interviewer using the OCAIRS I was more aware of the service user’s body language and I made sure to decipher and understand it. For example when I asked the client about attending parties or social events her body immediately became rigid and tense. She crossed her arms and would not make eye contact. This nonverbal communication revealed her anxiety in public places. However I did feel as though my lack of interviewing experience became apparent as the interview progressed. The conversation was much less fluid and became more of question and answer style interview. This made it difficult to expand on the answers given and probe deeper into the client’s response. As an interviewee I felt as though the interviewer was prompting a lot of my answers instead of allowing me to think of an original response. Perhaps this technique would be useful in another setting, however I felt as though it was influencing the answers I gave. For example if the interviewer asked “What in your life are you proud of?” and then added “you mentioned you were the captain of your team.” As an interviewee I would be inclined to respond “yes I’m proud of being the captain of my team”, rather than really reflecting on the things…

Listening: Listen to your potential client's story. Give him your undivided attention. Also, maintain eye contact, which is a sign that you are giving your prospective client your undivided attention and proper respect. You should avoid the appearance of cross-examination during the interview, even if your instincts may tell you that he's not telling the truth. Make sure your questions remain open ended; avoid "leading" the person.…

As an Accounting major, I am very interested and have become fond of learning about the varying business aspects within the sports industry. As a result, I decided to conduct my interview with a professional that is associated with the business operations of athletics. The person that I interviewed was Dawn Reynolds, the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business and Finance here at the University of Miami. After initially getting in contact with Ms. Reynolds a few weeks ago, I was finally able to meet with her briefly and conduct my interview on November 30, 2010, in room 261 in the Hecht Athletics Center. Just to give a bit of background information about Ms. Reynolds, she is from Elmira, New York and now currently resides in Coral Gables, Florida. She graduated from the University of Miami with a major in Finance and started her career at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia where she worked for four years as their budget coordinator. As a past president of the College Athletics Business Managers Association, she was named the College Athletic Business Manager of the Year in 2003 and has since served on various committees including the ACC Finance Committee and chairs the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee. She has worked with the University of Miami for the past 20 years and is currently the Chief Fiscal Officer for the Department and is a member of the executive management team. Below is a list of ten questions and answers from the interview I conducted:…

The client stated my tooth brushing technique are not well. My response was, your tooth brushing is good but we need to modify it a little bit. My client did show motivational to change her tooth brushing habits and was not coerced by me. We were able to establish a realistic goal that the client can meet. In my future motivational interview, I will practice my interview with a fellow student to get the best critique and also to feel at ease during the interview. For her next dental visit, I will ask her to demonstrate the proper tooth brushing technique and flossing so I can gain her understanding and behavior change.…

At some points, the client was not so clear in his responses, and they were not followed up by the interviewer. In response to the interviewer’s statement that the client hadn’t learnt much from his five years in prison, the client said “I’ve had time to think, and I think I thought so much that I haven’t been thinking”. This kind of response seems negative to me, as it indicates that he wasn’t really engaging and answering the asked question.…

Overall it was a calm interview, both parties were very friendly and polite. For the most part, the body language in the negotiation indicated that the negotiators were listening to each other, there were eye contact, nodding and both groups were leaning towards each other. On the verbal level, some phrases were used to signal understanding such as: “of course”, “yes” and “OK”. Names were not used during the negotiation, even though this might have helped to address the discussion partners better.…
